Criticism on Kang Gyeong-Soo’s 『Troubleshooter Dr. Penguin』

최근 그림책 독자의 연령과 범위가 점점 더 다양해지고 있으나, 그림책의 주 독자가 어린이라는 사실은 변하지 않는다. 그림책 독자의 크로스오버 현상 중의 하나는 외형적으로는 어린이 독자를 향하고 있는 것처럼 보이나, 실은 어린이가 아니라 성인을 내포독자로 설정하는 텍스트의 출현이다. 본 연구에서는 강경수(2020)의 『고민 해결사 펭귄 선생님』의 평론을 통해 이 텍스트에 투영된 이 시대의 세계관을 밝히고 그것이 어린이 문학교육과 그림책 평론에 주는 시사점을 모색하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 Vanhoozer의 문화해석 방법론에 따라 텍스트 자체의 세계, 텍스트 앞의 세계, 그리고 텍스트 뒤의 세계를 분석하였으며, 그 결과 이 텍스트에 투영된 냉소주의가 허무주의 세계관과 관련이 있음을 밝히고 그것이 어린이 문학 교육에 미치는 인식론적, 윤리적 측면에서의 문제점을 지적하였다. 본 논문의 결과는 그림책 평론가의 책무성이 그림책을 어린이에게 소개하는 성인 독자들의 읽기 역량을 높이는 것과 관련되어 있음을 시사하고 있다.

Whereas nowadays, diverse readers enjoy picturebooks regardless of their age and background, children will always be the main readers of picturebooks. One of the recent crossover phenomena is the emergence of picturebooks which take the form of children’s literature but set an adult as the implied reader instead of a child. By reviewing Kang Gyeong-Soo"s 『Troubleshooter Dr. Penguin』, this study aimed to discuss the worldview projected in the text and its implications for children"s literature education and picturebook review. For this purpose, this study used Vanhoozer"s cultural interpretation methodology which is a threefold analysis of the text itself, ahead of, and behind of the text and finally the worldview implied in this text. As a result, the nihilistic worldview projected in 『Troubleshooter Dr. Penguin』 is discussed. This study discussed the epistemological and ethical issues regarding the nihilist worldview projected in the text, and the responsibility of the picturebook reviewers to introduce valuable picturebooks to children by enhancing the literacy of adult readers.
