시각예술분야 학술지에 실린 그림책 연구에 관한 탐구 : 1986-2018

A Research on the Study of Picturebooks in the Visual Arts: 1986-2018

본 연구는 그림책의 그림언어의 예술성에 관심을 갖고 시각예술 관점에서 다루어지고 있는 그림책연구의 동향을 살피는 연구이다. 이를 위해 학술연구정보서비스(RISS)에서 ‘그림책’을 키워드로 검색된 논문들 중 시각예술분야 학술지에서 발표된 그림책연구 논문 131편을 대상으로 주제어를 분석하였다. 학술논문들은 주제어를 제시함으로써 연구의 성격과 내용을 표현하고 있기에 주제어를 통해 시각예술분야에서 이루어지고 있는 그림책 연구의 경향을 살피고자 하였다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 시각예술분야에서 그림책 연구는 2000년에 들어서 본격적으로 양적 성장을 보이기 시작하였다. 둘째, 131편의 연구물에서 522개의 주제어가 산출되었으며, ‘유아’, ‘어린이’, ‘아동’ 등 그림책은 어린아이를 대상으로 한다는 인식이 엿보이는 주제어가 지배적이었다. 그리고 서사전달을 위한 화면구성을 중심주제로 연구되었던 2000년대 초기에 비해 중후반으로 넘어가며 그림 요소, 디자인 요소 등 시각적 표현 방식에서의 다양한 접근이 증가하기 시작하였다. 셋째, 그림책의 시각언어를 구성하는 ‘색’, ‘형태’, ‘프레임’ 등 그림 요소와 예술적 양식, 이미지의 조형성, 그리고 그림책의 디자인적 측면은 그림으로 서사를 이끌어가는 그림서사를 읽어내는데 중요한 접근 관점이었다. 예술작품으로서 그림책은 많은 예술가들에게 영향을 주고 있으며, 연구자들에게도 시각적 예술표현방식으로 인식되며 예술분야에서 이루어지고 있는 연구의 증가를 이끌어내고 있었다.

As picturebooks are recognized as visual art, I investigated picturebooks in the visual art field. I was interested in the visual language of picturebooks and analyzed the keyword “picturebooks” in published studies. I searched for articles using the keyword “picturebooks” in the academic research database RISS provided by the Korea Education and Research Information Service (KERIS). Of the 1,653 articles, 131 were studies on picturebooks in the field of arts. Articles express the subject and content of the study by presenting keywords, so I examined the trend of picturebook research in the field of visual art through the keywords. At this time, the six academic journals, which mainly feature picture book research in the art field, were “the Plastic Media”, “Korea Design Forum”, “Illustration Forum”, “Bulletin of Korean Society of Basic Design & Art”, “Design Research”, “Journal of Korean Society of Communication Design” and “Communication Design Research”. The results of the study are as follows. First, the study of picturebooks in the field of visual arts began to show quantitative growth in 2000. Second, keywords that showed the perceptions of the picturebooks targeting young children were “infants” and “children”. However, in the mid to late 2000s, picturebooks began to study visual narrative such as visual and design elements. Third, painting elements, artistic styles, image formability, and design aspects of the picturebooks, which make up the visual language of the picturebooks, were becoming important subjects of the picturebook studies.
