그림책에 나타난 반려동물과 인간의 관계

The Relationship between Companion Animals and Humans in Picturebooks

본 연구의 목적은 그림책 속 반려동물과 인간의 관계를 살펴보는 데 있다. 본 연구는 그림책에 나타난 반려동물과 인간의 관계를 탐색하기 위하여 창작 그림책 64권을 분석대상으로 하였으며, 선행연구를 참고하여 반려동물의 종, 성별, 의인화 정도와 인간의 연령, 성별, 가족 형태를 분석하였다. 그리고 반려동물과 인간이 맺는 관계 유형을 3가지로 분류하여 분석하였다. 그 결과 가장 많은 반려동물의 종은 ‘개’이며, 성별의 확인불가, 언어소통이 아닌 표정을 통한 내면 심리표현의 빈도가 높았다. 한편 인간의 이미지에서는 아동, 여성, 3인 가구 빈도가 높았다. 반려동물과 인간의 관계는 ‘반려 모형’의 빈도가 가장 높고, 피보호자 모형, 장난감 모형 순이었다. 반려 모형에서는 정서적 성숙을, 피보호자 모형에서는 인지적 성숙을 아동이 경험하는 것으로 드러났다. 본 연구는 반려동물 양육 가구가 증가한 현대 아동의 삶에서 동물과 더불어 살아가는 태도를 함양할 수 있는 매체로서 그림책 활용을 제시한다.

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between companion animals and humans in picture books. To this end, sixty-four picture books were used to analyze the species, sexes, and degree of anthropomorphization in companion animals and to examine the ages, sexes, and types of family in humans by consulting the previous studies. Based on this analysis, three types of the relationships between companion animals and humans were classified. Consequently, dogs were the most frequently appearing species as the companion animals. In many cases, the animals' sexes were not identified. Additionally, there were speechless animals that expressed their psychological states through facial expressions. Meanwhile, children, femininity, family of three person-household mostly appeared on the behalf of humans. The most appearing relationship model between humans and companion animals was the companion model. The guardian model was next, and the toy model was the last. In the companion model, children who experienced emotional maturity were found. However, in the guardian model, children who experienced cognitive maturity were found. This study suggests the application of picture books as a means for cultivating the attitude of children who live with animals and who live in a modern society of increased households that raise pets.
