세계시민교육에서 메타버스 플랫폼 활용 가능성과 향후 과제

Possibility of using the Metaverse platform in global citizenship education and future tasks

본 연구의 목적은 세계시민교육에서 메타버스 플랫폼의 활용 가능성에 대해 분석하고 향후 과제에 대해 고찰하는 것이다. 이를 위하여 연구진은 메타버스를 활용한 청소년 대상 세계시민교육 프로그램에 참가한 학습자들을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하고 학습자들의 경험을 분석하였다. 연구 결과 ‘학습 내용과의 상호작용을 촉진시킬 수 있는 사물의 직관적 제시’, ‘텍스트 및 아바타를 활용한 상호작용의 활성화’, ‘이동성 및 학습공간 디자인을 활용한 학습의 실재감 향상’이 세계시민교육에서 메타버스 플랫폼을 사용할 시 고려해야 할 주요한 요인들로 확인되었다. 이러한 메타버스의 주요 기능 및 특징들은 세계시민교육과 같은 다양한 주제에 대해 탐구하고 물리적으로 떨어진 공간에 있는 학습자와 소통하며 몰입도 높은 교육 콘텐츠가 필요한 분야에서 적극 활용될 수 있다. 그러나 메타버스의 기술적 제한으로 인한 향후 개선과제 또한 확인되었다. 학습자 측면에서 메타버스 내 학습자 간 상호작용 기회와 학습의 실재감을 더욱 높이기 위해서는 비실시간 의사소통을 지원하는 공간 또는 기술적 지원이 필요하다. 또한 교수자 측면에서는 메타버스 활용 교육의 목적에 맞는 콘텐츠를 구현하고 윤리적·법률적 문제에 대해 인지하면서 고도의 교수학습전략을 세우는 것이 중요함이 확인되었다.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the possibility of using the Metaverse platform in global citizenship education and identify future tasks. To this end, the researchers conducted a survey of learners who participated in a global citizenship education program using Metaverse and analyzed the learners' experiences. The research findings indicate that key considerations for effective use of the Metaverse in global citizenship education include: 'intuitive presentation of objects that can promote interaction with learning contents', 'activation of interaction through text and avatars', and 'utilization of mobility and spatial design to improve learning presence.’ These features are effective for highly immersive educational content such as global citizenship education, allowing for exploration of various topics and communication with learners in remote locations. However, this study also identified technical limitations of the Metaverse, highlighting the need for space or technical support to facilitate non-real-time communication and enhance interaction and learning presence. Additionally, from the instructor's perspective, it is crucial to align learning content with the goal of Metaverse-based education and develop advanced teaching and learning strategies while being aware of ethical and legal issues.
