전래동화 속 여자아이의 주체의 완성 : 백희나의 『연이와 버들도령』을 중심으로

Completion of the subject of female young heroine in the traditional fairy tales : focused on Baek-Heuina’s 『Yeoni and Budeul Doryeong』

전래동화는 만들어지고 전래되는 과정 속에서 사회의 가치관과 자녀관, 양육관이 반영되어 변형되고 확산된다. 그러나 시대적 가치관을 고려한다고 하여도 전래동화 속 계모상은 잔혹하고, 무자비한 모습으로 그려져 있다. 전래되는 과정 속에서 어린이용으로 개작되면서 잔혹성이 희석되고 각색되었지만 여전히 계모에게 투사된 어머니상은 비상식적이고 비현실적이라서 이에 대한 다양한 해석이 제시되어 왔다. 본 연구는 백희나의 연이와 버들도령에 나타난 어머니상을 크리스테바의 이론을 바탕으로 해석해 보고자 하였다. 계모설화 중 본 이야기가 독특한 것은 연이가 계모의 비상식적인 심부름으로 버들도령의 세상으로 들어가나 그곳에 머무르지 않고 다시 귀가한다는 점이다. 크리스테바는 모성 안에 삼켜져 있는 아이가 아브젝시옹을 통해 아브젝트인 어머니를 뱉어내어 주체를 완성하며, 아이가 주체를 완성하는 과정에서 기호계에서 상징계로의 전이가 일어난다고 하였다. 본 연구의 분석 결과 삼켜진 아이와 뱉어내야 할 어머니, 기호계와 상징계로 상징되는 두 세계, 연이의 주체의 완성 과정으로 정리되었다. 본 연구 결과는 전래동화의 표면에 드러난 캐릭터와 이야기 구조에서 상징적인 의미를 이해함으로써 전래동화 감상에 도움을 줄 수 있을 것이다.

In the process of making and handing down traditional fairy tales, society’s values and children’s views are reflected, transformed and spread. However even considering the values of times, the image of a stepmother is portrayed as cruel and ruthless. Although the cruelty has been diluted and adapted for children, the unrealistic mother image projected onto the stepmother is extraordinary and unrealistic, so various interpretations have been suggested. This study tried to interpret the mother figure in Baek Heuina’s 『Yeoni and Budulyeong』 based on Kristeva’s theory. What makes this story unique among stepmother tales is that Yeoni goes into the world of Buddolyeong with her stepmother’s unreasonable errand, but returns home without staying there. Kristeva said that the process of completion of the subject through the transition from the semiotic realm to the symbolic realm, the child who is swallowed up in the abject motherhood should spit out the mother through the abjection. The results of this study were summarized as the swallowed child and the mother to be spit out, the two worlds symbolized by the semiotic and the symbolic, and the completion process of the subject of Yeoni. The results of this study will be helpful in appreciating traditional fairy tales by understanding the symbolic meaning in the characters and story structure revealed on the surface of traditional fairy tales.
