그림책에 나타난 토끼의 이미지와 의인화 양상 연구

A Study on Rabbit Images and Anthropomorphism Aspects in Picture Books

본 논문의 목적은 토끼가 등장하는 87종의 그림책을 대상으로 토끼 이미지를 분류하고 의인화된 토끼를 통해 인간의 삶의 양상이나 태도를 범주화하여 그 의미를 해석하는 데에 있다. 내용분석 방법을 활용하여 빈도수와 백분율로 처리한 결과, 토끼의 이미지에서 의인화 정도는 ‘말, 외양, 행동’이 모두 의인화된 경우가 가장 많이 나타났고, 토끼의 역할은 ‘남을 도와주고’, ‘자신의 생각을 바꾸며’, ‘자신의 약점을 극복하는’ 존재가 주를 이룬다. 인간의 삶의 양상과 태도는 ‘남에게 호의를 베풀거나 도와주고’, ‘자신의 생각이나 행동이 잘못됨을 인지하며’, ‘호기심을 실현하는’ 태도가 중심을 이룬다. 인간과의 관계에서는 토끼와 인간이 서로 도움을 주고받으며 함께 살아가는 존재로 나타난다. 이 결과는 친숙한 토끼 이미지 속에서 다른 사람과 조화롭게 살고 삶을 긍정적으로 살아갈 수 있다는 의미가 있다. 본 논문의 시사점은 어린이 독자가 토끼 그림책을 통해 간접 경험과 공감을 하는 데에 있다.

This study aimed to classify rabbit images for 87 types of rabbit picture books and interpret their meaning by categorizing the attitudes toward human life through the anthropomorphized rabbits. The results of the content analysis method of the anthropomorphism showed that the most frequent case was one in which ‘words, appearance, and behavior’ were all represented. Additionally, the main roles assigned to rabbits included ‘helping others,’ ‘changing one's thoughts,’ and ‘overcoming one's weaknesses.’ The various aspects and attitudes of human life were concentrated on ‘doing favors or helping others,’ ‘recognizing that one’s thoughts or actions are wrong,’ and ‘realizing one’s curiosity.’ For relationships with humans, the findings indicate that rabbits and humans are portrayed as beings that mutually assist each other and coexist. These picture books show that people live in harmony with each other and live a positive life using the familiar image of rabbits. The results of this study suggest that children readers can indirectly experience empathy through rabbit picture books.
