여우누이 설화를 재화한 그림책의 문학 교육적 의미 연구 - 여우 설화에 나타난 두려움의 양상을 중심으로

A Study on the Literary and Educational Significance of Picture Books Retelling the Fox Sister Tale - Focusing on the Aspects of Fear Shown in the Fox Tale

본 연구는 여우누이 그림책에 나타난 두려움의 특성과 극복의 양상을 밝힘으로써 문학 교육적 의미를 추론하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 본 연구의 연구대상은 동아시아의 전래설화를 담아놓은 《태평광기》,《호미총담》,《삼국유사》,《한국구비문학대계》등과 현재 출판되고 있는 4권의 여우누이 그림책이며, 이를 대상으로 여우 설화의 유형과 내포된 두려움의 특성, 두려움의 극복의 양상을 내용 분석하였다. 그 결과 여우 설화의 유형과 두려움의 특성은 다음 세가지로 분류되었다. 1) 여우신 이야기 : 신성한 존재의 신비한 힘의 권능에 대한 두려움, 2) 여우 요괴 이야기 : 이질적 존재의 유혹에 의한 파멸에 대한 두려움, 3) 여우누이 이야기 : 혼종적 존재의 기생적(寄生的) 폭력에 대한 두려움. 이 중에 여우누이 이야기는 옛 돌궐 지역과 한반도에 분포하는 한국적 특수성을 가진 이야기이며, 공동체를 내부에서부터 잠식하는 은밀한 폭력을 이미지로 형상화하고 서사화한 특징이 있었다. 4권의 〈여우누이〉 그림책에 나타난 두려움 극복 양상은 두 가지로 나타났다. 첫째는 대결과 분리라는 전통적 시각을 유지하며 ‘여우누이"와 대적하여 분리, 퇴치하는 극복의 방법을 제시하였다. 둘째는 수용과 관계의 방법으로, 여우누이의 혼종성에서 인간과 동물의 시선 교환을 통하여 낯선 존재를 수용하고 공존으로 승화할 수 있는 극복방법을 제시하였다. 그림책 〈끝지〉에서 낯선 존재의 혼종성을 수용하고 새로운 관계를 설정함으로써 두려움 극복의 새로운 길을 제시했다.

The purpose of this study was to infer the educational meaning of literature by revealing the characteristics of fear and aspects of overcoming it in the 'Fox Sister' picture book. The subjects of the study were 《Taipinggwanggi》, 《Homi Chongdam》, 《Samguk Yusa》, and 《Summary of Korean Oral Classical Literature》, which contain traditional tales from East Asia, and the 4 currently published Fox Sister picture books. A content analysis was conducted on the types of fox tales, the characteristics of implied fear, and the aspects of overcoming fear. As a result, the types of fox tales and the characteristics of fear were classified into the following three categories. 1) The story of the fox god: Fear of the mysterious power of a sacred being; 2) The story of the fox monster: Fear of destruction caused by the temptation of an alien being; 3) The story of 'Fox Sister': Fear to the parasitic hybrid being's secret encroachment. Among these, the story of 'Fox Sister' is a story with Korean characteristics distributed in the old Göktürks ​region and the Korean Peninsula and has the characteristic of symbolizing and narrating the secret violence that encroaches on the community from within. There were two aspects of overcoming fear in the four <Fox Sister> picture books. First, the traditional perspective of confrontation and separation was maintained, and a method of overcoming was presented by confronting, separating, and defeating 'Fox Sister.' Second, as a method of acceptance and relationship, the hybrid nature of Fox Sister suggested a way to overcome that can accept unfamil ar beings and sublimate them into coexistence through the exchange of gazes between humans and animals. In the picture book <The Youngest Sister Kkeutji>, a new path to overcoming fear is presented by accepting the hybridity of unfamil ar beings and establishing new relationships.
