페미니즘의 관점에서 본 유아 그림책 분석 - 2000년 이후 출판된 추천도서를 중심으로 -

A study on Gender Representation in Children's Picture Books in 2000s

본 연구는, 2000년 이후 출판된 3-7세 유아용(유아 및 초등 저학년) 그림책으로서 4 종의 아동 도서 권장목록 중, 2 종 이상이 동시에 추천하는 68권을 대상으로 하여, 페미니즘의 관점에서 살펴보려는 목적을 가지고 이루어졌다. 구체적으로 2005년 현재 우리나라 유아에게 제공되는 그림책의 작가의 특성이 어떠한지, 또한 페미니즘의 관점에서 글과 그림에 나타난 여성·남성·양성 평등적 측면이 어떠한지를 알아보려는 것이다. 연구 결과, 외국작품이 국내 작품보다 2배 많았으며, 30-40대가 주류를 이루고 있는 그림책 작가의 남녀의 비율은 2:1이었으며 90% 이상이 대학 이상의 학력을 지니고 있었다. 그림책의 주인공에서 남아와 여아는 고른 분포를 보이나, 성인인물의 경우 남성이 여성보다 2배 이상 나타나고 있다. 양성 평등적 측면에서 여아와 남아는 서로 동등하게 표현되고 있으나, 아직까지도 글과 그림의 장면에서 미세한 남녀 불평등의 요소가 잠재되어 있음이 나타나고 있다.

This study was to examine the characteristics of 68 picture books published in Korea in 2000s. The characteristics of picture books wereto be analyzed by feminist approach, focused on the texts and pictures of books recommended by 4 <Good Book Lists>. The results were as followings: (1) Translated foreign books in the subjects were twice more than the Koreans. (2) In the aspects of authors, the most of their ages were in 30s-40s, men authors were twice more than women. (3) The main characters, girls and boys, maintained balanced percentage but not for adults. Men appeared twice more than women, and the highest percentage of animals and things was gender-neutral. (4) The attitudes of girls and women were negative and dependent and girls' clothes were mostly skirts. Boys and men's attitudes appeared positive, independent, aggressive or troublesome. Some grandmothers were represented as side-stream characters, and women's social conditions or contributions were seldom appeared. (5) Men, as fathers, were participating in child-rearing with several types of play, but not in households. (6) In the perspectives of feminism, girls and boys of the subjects had equal rights as human beings, participated in the physical activities equally, and they behaved independently and wisely. However, the subtle unfairness to women remained in many pages of picture books.
