루소의「에밀」에 나타난 영유아 도덕교육의 의미

루소는 자연주의 교육사상을 통해 ‘자연인’을 실현시키는 방법을 연구한 교육개혁론자로 평가된다. 루소의 교육목적은 ‘자연인의 형성’에 있으며, 자연인이란 인간에게 부여한 본성, 즉 자연성을 소유한 존재로서, 이러한 자연성 회복을 위해 택한 교육방법이 자연에 따르는 자연주의 교육(naturalistic education)이다. 본 연구는 루소의 「에밀」에 나타난 자연주의 교육 사상이 갖는 영유아 도덕교육의 의미를 탐색하는데 그 목적이 있다. 그에 따라「에밀」에 나타난 자연주의 교육사상과 도덕론을 살펴보고, 자연주의 사상이 영유아 도덕교육에 갖는 의미를 탐구하였다. 그 결과로 첫째, 영유아기의 도덕교육은 감성을 통한 취향의 형성과, 둘째, 감각적 이성을 훈련하는 방향으로 이뤄져야 하며, 셋째, 이성을 통한 절대적 도덕기준의 적용보다는 소극적 교육으로 접근되어야 한다. 이는 영유아 교육현장에서 절대적 가치의 도덕 옹호와 배려, 양보와 같은 이성적 올바름의 미덕이 강조되기 보다는, 도덕적 행동이 영유아에게 ‘좋은 감성’을 갖게 하는 방향으로 이뤄져야 한다는 것을 시사한다. 따라서 영유아 교육현장에서는 영유아의 도덕 발달의 특성을 고려하고, 그에 따른 적절한 지도와 교수학습 방법이 모색되어야 할 것이다.

Rousseau had revolutionary thoughts on education and in Emile. The meaning of 'natural man' was man who had natural instinct and Rousseau explicitly said that his educational ideal was to cultivate 'the natural man'. The purpose of this study is explore the meaning of Rousseau's moral education for children based on his naturalism in Emile. In order to achieve that purpose, the naturalism in his educational thoughts and moral education was reappraised, and it's implication on moral education for children was explored. The results showed that the moral education for children was cultivated by sentiment to form good inclination by training sensible reason, and should be practiced by negative education. The moral education for child should not emphasize absolute values, caring for others and concession but should seek to raise good sentiment for others by practicing moral activities. So, the moral education for children should be considered in children's development.
