유아의 비판적 사고 향상을 위한 리모델링 접근법에 따른 그림책 읽기 활동의 효과

The effects of picture-book reading activity based on remodelling approach

이 논문에서는 비판적 사고 교육을 위한 하나의 방편으로서 리모델링 접근법을 소개하고 나아가, 리모델링 접근법에 따라 그림책 읽기 활동을 실시했을 때 유아들이 어떤 변화를 보이는지를 살펴보았다. 만 5세 유아들을 대상으로 24회의 그림책 읽기 활동을 리모델링 접근법에 따라 실시하고 비판적 사고의 변화를 사전, 사후 검사를 통해 살펴보았다. 또한 실험집단 유아들의 그림책 읽기 활동을 녹화한 다음 유아와 교사의 발화율, 유아간 상호작용, 유아와 교사의 상호작용 측면에서 살펴보았다. 그 결과 유아들의 비판적 사고는 목적, 함축, 추론이라는 세 가지 사고 요인에서 유의한 향상을 보였다. 유아와 교사의 상호작용 패턴은 실험 후반기로 갈수록 교사와 유아가 1:1로 이야기하기보다는 교사의 이야기에 관해 유아들이 돌아가면서 이야기 하거나, 다른 유아들의 이야기를 듣고 유아들이 직접적으로 반응하는 양상을 보였다. 이 같은 연구 결과는 리모델링 접근법에 따른 그림책 읽기 활동이 유아들의 비판적 사고를 향상시키고, 유아들이 점점 적극적으로 자신의 주장과 의견을 이야기 하는데 도움이 되는 것임을 말해준다.

This study aims to verify whether the remodelling approach is usable in kindergarten education as an educational method for critical thinking when applied to young children’s activities on reading picture books. Researchers conducted twenty-four sessions of reading picture books, for which they applied the remodeling approach. The experimental group conducted reading activities based on the remodelled lesson plans and control group were given the original lesson plans. The results showed that among the critical thinking elements purpose, implications, inferences had a significant difference. As a result, it was observed that with more reading activities, more episodes followed with one child talking after another child, and the frequency of the young children’s dialoguing and discussing with their teacher was higher. It was also observed that in the interactive pattern between the teacher and young children, the teacher-based class in the early stage of the research changed into one which the young children interacted more actively, and in the beginning, young children asked questions within the curriculum, but as the research continued, they started to ask and answer questions among themselves, which is one of the characteristics of proactive thinkers. In conclusion, the study proved that the curriculum based on the remodeling approach is an efficient method that helps young children become critical thinkers by allowing democratic, voluntary, and proactive discussions, which are the most basic forms of critical thinking.
