유아전통문화교육을 위한 그림책 분석 및 그림책 활용에 대한 교사의 인식

Analysis of Picture Book Contents and the Teacher's Perception on the Utilization of Picture Books for Early Childhood Traditional Culture Education

현대의 우리나라 유아들은 불가피하게 서구지향적인 가치와 문화를 수용하며 살아가고 있다. 유아전통문화교육은 자신의 뿌리와 전통을 알고 우리의 문화에 긍지를 가질 수 있는 올바른 삶의 자세를 갖도록 하기 때문에 유아교육의 중요한 내용 중 하나이다. 본 연구는 유아교육기관에서 교사들이 유아전통문화교육을 위해 그림책을 활용하고자 할 때 보다 효과적으로 활용할 수 있는 기초자료를 제공하는데 그 목적이 있다. D시에 소재하고 있는 28개 유아교육기관의 도서대장에서 전통문화교육 내용과 관련이 있는 그림책 135권을 분석하고, 어린이집과 유치원 교사 130명을 대상으로 교사의 인식을 조사하였다. 유아교육기관에서 활용되고 있는 그림책에 나타난 유아전통문화교육 내용의 분포를 주요 범주별로 보면 ‘전통예술’, ‘전통생활’, ‘세시풍속’ 그리고 ‘전통놀이’ 순으로 나타났다. 또한, 유아교육기관에서 보유하고 있는 그림책의 내용이 ‘유치원 생활주제’-「우리나라」의 소주제 중 ‘우리나라의 옛이야기 감상하기’에서 활용될 수 있는 그림책으로 분류된 것이 가장 많았다. 유아교육기관의 교사들은 그림책을 활용한 유아전통문화교육의 필요성을 인식하고 있었으며 유아전통문화교육에 그림책을 활용하고 있었다. 유아전통문화교육은 주로 특정 생활주제와 관련하여 실시하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 유아교육기관에서 유아전통문화교육을 다양한 범위에서 지도하기 위해서는 전통문화 그림책 내용을 고려한 선택과 활용이 선행될 필요성을 논의하였다.

This study analyzed the contents of picture books utilized at early childhood education institutions and surveyed teachers’ perception on picture books. This study aimed to provide basic information for teachers at kindergartens and childcare centers to utilize picture books effectively in early childhood traditional culture education. The results of this study are summarized as follows. First, the contents of early childhood traditional culture education in picture books utilized at kindergartens and childcare centers were categorized into ‘traditional art,’ ‘traditional life,’ ‘seasonal customs,’ and ‘traditional plays’ in order of volume. In addition, according to the contents of picture books owned by early childhood education institutions, the largest number of picture books were classified to be usable in ‘Appreciating Korean old stories’ among the sub themes of kindergarten life theme ‘My Country.’ Second, with regard to the necessity of early childhood traditional culture education using picture books, most of the teachers recognized its necessity. With regard to the effect of using picture books in traditional culture education, they replied ‘Highly effective’ or ‘Effective.’ As to the time for early childhood traditional culture education, they executed such traditional culture education in connection to specific life themes or in special events, showing that traditional culture is emphasized limitedly in special events or in connection to specific life themes.
