The Parenting Characteristics of Inexperienced Father and the Process of Becoming Father

본 연구는 ‘양육적 아버지’가 요구되는 현대 사회에서 ‘부모기’로의 전이를 겪고 있는 1세 미만의 영아 자녀를 둔 초보 아버지들이 자녀를 양육하는 과정에서 어떠한 양육 특성을 보이고, 그들이 아버지가 되어가는 과정에서 어떠한 심리적, 정서적 변화 과정을 거치는지를 살펴보고 이해하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 1세 미만의 영아를 둔 아버지 4명과 그들의 자녀인 4명의 영아들을 동영상 촬영 관찰, 심층면담, 연구 참여자의 저널, 연구자의 반성적 저널쓰기를 통해 질적 연구를 수행하였다. 그 결과, 초보 아버지들의 양육특성은 아이의 요구에 허용적인 아빠, 아이의 즐거움을 위해 헌신하는 아빠, 아이의 지적 성장을 위해 알려주는 아빠로 나타났으며, 아버지 됨의 변화 과정은 임신기의 변화 - 기쁨과 감사 그리고 태교에의 동참, 출산시의 변화 - 두려움과 기대 그리고 천재일우의 만남, 양육기의 변화 - 막연함과 부담 그리고 훌륭한 아빠되기로 나타났다.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the parenting characteristics of inexperienced father and the process of becoming father. The main participants of this study were four fathers and their four babies who are one year olds and younger. This research was carried out for 6 months. The data were collected by participation observation, in-depth interviews, and fathers meeting and reflective journals. According to the results of this study, the parenting characteristics of inexperienced father were 'A father who accepts what a child is calling for', 'A father who tries to make his child happy', 'a father who wants to teach his children everything in the world'. And the process of becoming father were 'my wife’s pregnancy is a miracle to me', 'a father who is taking part in prenatal education', 'growing fear in expectation of childbirth', 'a meeting with my baby is an extremely rare opportunity', 'the role of a father, which comes to me without any preparations', 'making up my mind to be a genuine father while looking back over my father'
