영어 유머와 우리말 번역 - 로알 달의 작품을 중심으로

English Humor in Roald Dahl's Fiction and its Korean Translation

본 연구의 목적은 영어권 아동문학서에 나타난 유머의 종류와 우리말 번역 시 나타나는 변형형태를 살피는데 있다. 영어권 아동문학자 중 유머가 풍부한 작품으로 유명하며 국내번역서를 통해 널리 알려진 로알 달(Roald Dahl 1916～1990)의 작품 12종의 원본과 번역서를 통해 분석이 이루어졌다. 작품 속 우스개 말은 거꾸로 말하기, 이름, 동음 반복, 동음이의어, 의성어와 신조어, 틀린 철자와 문법, 과장과 반복, 관용구 바꿔 쓰기, 욕 등으로 구분되었다. 영어 유머의 우리말 번역 시 나타난 문제점과 외국어 교육에의 적용을 논의하였다.

This study aims to investigate types of English humor in children's literature and its transformation when it is translated to Korean language. Twelve of Roald Dahl's novels were chosen and analysed. Backward speaking, naming, alliteration, riddles, portmanteau, wrong grammar and mis-spelling, exaggeration and repetition, idioms, and swearing words were frequently appeared as humor in English text. Some issues were raised relating to translation into Korean language and teaching English.
