Adult Audience of Picturebooks

본 연구의 목적은 그림책의 이중독자 연구의 한 부분으로써 성인독자가 선호하는 그림책을 조사하는 것이다. 일반적으로 그림책은 어린이를 독자로 하는 문학작품으로 인식되어 왔다. 그러나 최근에는 성인을 대상으로 하는 그림책들이 출판되고 있기 때문에 성인 독자에 대한 연구가 필요하다. 본 연구에서 정의한 성인 독자는 만 20세 이상의 남녀 성인이다. 그리고 이 성인독자는 교육적 의도를 지닌 부모 및 유아교사와 교육적 의도가 없는 일반 성인으로 구분되었다. 연구 대상은 성인독자와 설문지를 통해 선정된 132권의 그림책이다. 자료 분석은 SPSS 17.0을 사용하였다. 본 연구는 성인독자가 선호하는 그림책을 조사하여 목록으로 제시하였으며, 그들이 선호하는 그림책이 주로 번역그림책이라는 것을 보여주었다. 특히 성인독자의 교육적인 의도는 그림책을 선호함에 영향을 미친다는 사실을 규명하였다. 이는 국내 그림책 작가와 교육적 의도를 가지고 그림책을 접하는 성인독자에게 시사점을 제공한다.

In general, picturebooks have been recognized as the genre that addresses a audience of children. Today, children, however, are not recognized as the only audience of picturebooks any more. Also, there are recent works that allude to the possibility of dual audience in children's literature. On the contrary, there is no study focusing on picturebooks, especially adult audiences��｝point of view, in Korea. The purpose of this study is to investigate the preferred picturebooks of adult audiences in the part of the study on the dual audience. This study made a survey of favorite picturebooks to adult audiences and analyzed the favorite picturebooks. In this study, the adult audiences were adults over age 20. I divided the adult audiences into two groups; general adults, parents and kindergarten teachers. The subjects of this study involved 323 adults and 132 picturebooks from the survey. In analyzing data, this study used SPSS 17.0 program. The results of this study produced a list of picturebooks that the adult audiences prefer and identified that these picturebooks are mainly translations. This study showed that educational intention held great appeal for the adult audiences, especially parents and kindergarten teacher, selecting favorite picturebooks. Also, this study revealed the picturebooks that have the dual audienceship in Korea. It is hoped that this study will assist writers and publishers in creating or working picturebooks and that picturebook play a role is the resources for children and adults in children's literature.
