앙리 베르그송의 희극론을 중심으로 살펴본 유아 그림책의 유머분석: 한병호의 그림책을 중심으로

그림책이 가지고 있는 가치 중의 하나인 ‘즐거움’은 유아에게 주는 가장 큰 선물이자 예술의 한 장르이다. 본 연구에서는 그림책의 즐거움을 이끄는 유머의 요소를 앙리 베르그송의 희극론에 나타난 형태, 움직임, 상황, 언어, 성격의 다섯 가지 기준으로 설명하고자 하였으며, 이를 위해 동화 작가 한병호의 그림책 4권을 선택하였다. 분석 결과 유아 그림책의 유머 요소는 신체의 변형과 과장에 의한 형태의 유머, 인물의 기계적 움직임이나 반복적 행위에 의한 움직임의 유머, 동일한 상황의 연속이나 예상된 결과의 역전으로 인한 상황의 유머, 의성어․의태어, 운율과 각운 및 불완전한 문장구조의 언어의 유머, 비현실적이고 결점을 가진 인물의 성격의 유머로 나타났다. 본 연구는 유아의 마음을 사로잡는 매력적인 그림책의 요소로서 즐거움과 유머의 가치를 부각시키고자 하였으며, 그림책의 유머는 단순한 생리적 현상이나 낮은 정서의 운동을 넘어서서 희극성의 요소를 직관적으로 읽고 해석해 내는 고등정신기능과 미적능력을 요구하는 것이므로, 유아가 지적 능력을 기르고 즐거움과 정서능력을 함양할 수 있다는 점에서 유아그림책의 중요한 요소로 부각되어야 할 것을 제안하였다.

This study attempts to analyze elements of humor in 4 of picture books based on Henri Bergson's comic theory. Particularly, the picture books written by Han Bung-ho, the Korean picture book writer, were chosen because of their adequacy of stories reflecting Korean traditional culture, which are assumed to more appropriate to create in Korean style. The five elements of humor such as form, action, language, situation, and characteristics are derived from the comic theory of Bergson and utilized to analyze the four picture books. The study found that the selected picture books contained abundant elements of humor that highlight the distortion and exaggeration of physical body, repeating and machine-like actions, reversed consequence of our expectation, rich mimetic words and onomatopoeia, and unrealistic characteristics with many shortcomings. Based on the analysis, this study suggests the humor in picture books should be considered as a sign of higher spirit of young children and their intellectual mind and as one of significant elements to choose a good picture book for young children.
