한국 그림책에 나타난 조부모의 특성 분석

The Analysis of Grandparents’ Characteristics in Korean Picture Books

본 연구는 한국 그림책과 외국 그림책에서 조부모가 어떻게 표현되어 있는지를 비교 분석하여 한국 그림책에 나타난 조부모의 특성을 알아보기 위한 것이다. 분석 대상은 한국 그림책 11권과 외국 그림책 33권이었으며, 그것들을 조부모의 모습과 조부모의 역할 유형에 따라 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 한국 그림책에 나타난 조부모의 특성은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 한국 그림책의 조부모는 병이나 죽음을 통해 가장 많이 표현되었고, 병이나 죽음을 맞이한 조부모는 수동적이고 무력하게 표현되었다. 둘째, 한국 그림책의 조부모는 제한된 역할만을 보여주었고, 가족 역사 전달자 역할을 가장 많이 하는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 한국 그림책에 나타난 조부모와 손자녀와의 관계는 외국 그림책에 나타난 그것에 비해 일방적이고, 긴밀하지 않은 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구 결과는 조부모 관련 그림책에 대한 유아의 반응을 양적, 질적으로 분석하고 궁극적으로는 조부모와 관련한 한국 그림책의 나아갈 방향을 모색하는 데 기여할 수 있을 것이다.

This study aims to identify the characteristics of grandparents in Korean picture books by comparatively analyzing the description of grandparents in Korean and foreign picture books. It is intended to serve as a basic research towards subsequent researches such as quantitative/ qualitative analyses of children's responses on the picture books and suggestions on how the Korean picture books involving grandparents should be written. Eleven Korean picture books and thirty three foreign picture books were selected for the study and the images and roles of grandparents in the picture books were analyzed. Through this study, the following results were found. First, the grandparents in the Korean picture books are described through their diseases or deaths the most. Sick or dying grandparents are characterized to be passive or enervated. Second, the roles of grandparents in the Korean picture books are limited and they play a role in delivering family history the most. Third, the relationships between grandparents and grandchildren in the Korean picture books are more unilateral and less close than those in the foreign picture books.
