일본 옛이야기그림책의 교육적 의미 고찰

A study on the meanings in Japanese folklore picture books for young children

본 연구의 목적은 일본의 유아용 옛이야기그림책을 고찰하는 데에 있다. 일본 유아들에게 전통적인 정신적․물질적 가치를 전승하며, 전통 문화를 간접체험 할 수 있는 교육적 자료로서 역할해 온 일본 옛이야기그림책에 내포된 의미를 밝히는 것이 연구의 기본 목표이다. 연구대상은 일본 전국학교도서관협의회 선정 「좋은 그림책」에서 추천한 유아용 옛이야기그림책 13편이다. 염구대상 그림책들은 1959년부터 50 여년 가까이 일본 성인들의 교육적 소신을 전하는 매개체로서 일본 유아들의 사랑 속에 읽혀져 왔다. 13편의 옛이야기그림책은 인간 삶의 양식, 즉 의식주, 계절, 신앙과 기원, 놀이와 전쟁, 노동과 수확, 개인과 공동체, 남성과 여성, 어른과 어린이 등, 등장인물과 사건 전개 속에 유아들이 세상을 살아가며 직면하게 될 삶의 위기를 보여주며, 이를 헤쳐 나갈 용기와 지혜를 주고, 미래의 그들 삶 속에 함께 실현하고 만들어가야 할 가치와 세계를 향한 비전을 제시하고 있다.

This study is about the educational meanings of Japanese folklore picture books for young children. The basic goal of this study is to see the meanings of Japanese folklore picture books as educational materials to experience Japanese traditional culture. Subjects of this study are 13 folklore picture books for young children recommended in ⌜Good Picture Books⌟ which is published by National Committee of School Libraries in Japan. Those books, repeatedly published under educational minds and love of Japanese people since 1966, are read for more than 40 years. 13 Japanese folklore picture books show human life style such as clothes․food․housing, seasons, religion and origin, play and war, labor and harvest, individual and community, men and women, adult and children, show crises of life that young children will encounter through characters and development of the story, give courage and wisdom to overcome the crises, and present the values and vision towards the world that they will have to realize in their future life. Considering our recent young children educational situation in this global era, this study helps to understand Japan and Japanese minds on young children's education, inquiring to the Japanese folklore picture books for young children. This study could be a prism to understand the characteristics and the meanings of Korean folklore picture books for young children.
