그림책 속에 나타난 죽음

Death represented in Children's Picture Books

이 연구는 그림책에 나타난 죽음준비와 죽음, 사후에 대해 분석하였다. 이를 위해 1995년부터 2008년까지 한국에서 창작되고 번역된 창작 그림책 중에서 죽음이 주요 주제로 다루어지고 있는 그림책 64권을 대상으로 선정하였다. 그림책을 죽음준비, 애도와 일생의 3가지로 분류하고 나누고, 죽음준비와 죽음개념, 애도(정서적 반응, 의식), 사후(사후존재와 사후세계, 신)로 유목화 하여 내용을 분석하였다. 그 결과 그림책 속에는 다양한 방법의 죽음준비가 제시되어 있으며, 죽음개념(필연성, 비가역성, 비기능성, 인과성) 뿐 아니라 애도의 과정을 통한 효과적인 죽음의 극복이 드러나 있었다. 그리고 장례 의식과 사후세계에 문화 간 차이가 분명하게 드러나 있었다. 이를 통해 그림책을 통한 아동의 죽음 준비교육을 위한 효과적인 자료로서 그림책의 가능성을 발견함과 동시에 문화적 가치와 세계관을 크게 반영하고 있는 죽음 주제 그림책의 선택에 필요한 평가 기준 마련의 필요성을 인지할 수 있었다.

This research explored the preparation for death, concept of death and afterlife represented in picture books by a survey of 64 death picture books published and translated into Korea from 1995 to 2008. They were classified by three categories : 1) the preparation for death, 2) mourning 3) one's life and subdivided into four to analyze contents : 1) method of preparing death, 2) concept of death 3) mourning(emotional response and funeral rites), 4) afterlife( existence, world, point of view, and God). The result was as follows. Firstly, the preparation for death was in a wide variety of method. Secondly, and the concept of death including inevitability, irreversibility, nonfunctionality and causality was described. Thirdly, there was the overcome through the process of mourning death. Finally, cultural difference came out from funeral rites and afterlife.
