The Narrative About Situations That Happen in the Beginning of the Term Through Kindergarten Teacher’s Reflective Journals

본 연구는 학기 초 유아들의 유치원 적응을 돕고자하는 교사들의 반성적 저널을 통해 현실적인 대처를 할 수 있는 교사교육의 기초자료로 활용할 수 있음을 목적으로 한다. 유치원 교육 현장에서 중요한 시기라고 인식되는 학기 초 3월 동안 일어나는 현장의 소리와 교사의 이야기를 통해 학기 초에 일어나는 상황이나 사건에 대해 어떻게 사고하고 반성하는지에 대해 알아보았다. 연구를 위해 6명의 현직 교사들이 3월 한 달간 주 4회에 걸쳐 쓴 반성적 저널과 면담 내용을 분석하였다. 그 결과 학기 초 이야기의 의미 있는 내용을 분석하여 8개의 주제가 도출되었고, 이 주제들을 다시 분석, 통합하여 총 4개의 범주가 도출되었다. 유아교사의 반성적 저널과 면담을 통해 본 학기 초에 나타난 구체적인 이야기는 다음과 같다. 첫째, ‘아이들을 이해하는 혼란의 학기 초’에서는 유치원이 싫은 아이들, 알록달록 다양한 아이들이다. 둘째, ‘부모와 관계 맺는 혼란의 학기 초’에서는 어색한 학부모와의 만남, 내 마음대로 학부모이다. 셋째, ‘혼란 속의 작은 사회’에서는 학기 초 버릇 1년 간다, 뒤죽박죽 안전지도이다. 넷째, ‘혼란에서 교육으로’에서는 커가는 아이들, 반성하는 교사이다.

This study suggests that kindergarten teachers’ reflections on the field in the beginning of the school year can be utilized as practical resources for teacher education. The study investigates how kindergarten teachers think and analyze the situations that happen in March - the beginning of the term - through reflective journals that they wrote about the field. For the study’s data, six current teachers wrote reflective journals four times a week in March, 2011, and had face to face meetings with the researcher. The data was analyzed by dividing it into four categories and eight sub-categories. According to the reflective journals and face to face meetings with teachers , the specific happenings in the beginning of the term are as follows. First, during the beginning of the school year when they can understand children, teachers found that there were children who did not like kindergarten and various children. Second, in the period when they get connections with children’s parents, teachers had awkward meetings with them. Third, in ‘a small society in the confusion’, they noticed that a habit formed in the beginning of the semester continues all year. Teachers also realized that they had a hard time teaching safety education. Fourth, from ‘confused stages to education’, teachers became aware of growing children and realized the importance of self-reflection.
