Moulting of a Male Novice Kindergarten Teacher

본 연구는 남자 유치원 초임교사의 내러티브 탐구를 통해 남자 유치원 초임교사가 초임교직생활에서 어떻게 성장해 나가는지 알아보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 A시 유치원의 초임교사로 재직 중인 김교사를 연구 참여자로 선정하여 3개월간 자료 수집을 하였다. 총 9회의 심층면담과 6회의 전화면담, 그리고 저널을 통해 내러티브탐구방법으로 진행하였다. 자료를 분석한 결과 김교사는 초임교직생활에서 1. 초임교사의 미숙함에서 익숙함으로, 2. 초임교사의 내면의 깨달음을 통한 유아교사의 역할 이해, 3. 남자교사로서의 역할을 기대하는 기관의 입장 수용하고 부응하기, 4. 학부모의 ‘異姓교사에 대한 불안’으로부터 벗어나기의 성장과정을 나타냈다. 본 연구의 결과는 유아교사가 되려고 하는 남자 예비유아교사들에게 유치원 교사가 되는 것에 대한 막연한 두려움을 해소하고 남자도 유아교사로서 성장해 나갈 수 있다는 희망을 줄 수 있고 남자 교사를 채용하려는 기관장들에게는 남자 유아교사도 교사의 역할을 이해하고 수행할 수 있으며 오히려 남자 교사이기에 기관에 기여하는 바가 있음을 알려, 앞으로의 남자 유아교사의 채용에 적극적인 검토를 해보도록 하는 데 기여할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

This study aimed to understand the process of development of a male novice kindergarten teacher through the narrative inquiry method. Kim teacher working in a kindergarten located in A city, participated in the study for 3 months. The data from 9 in-depth interviews, 6 telephone interviews, and journal analysis, were analyzed through the narrative research method. The result of analysis showed that Kim teacher in his teaching life got through the process as follows: 1. novice teacher’s development from immature to mature; 2. novice teacher’s understanding the role of early childhood teacher: 3. accepting and satisfying the organization’s expectations which requires the role of male teacher; and 4. coping with a fear of parents against the teacher of different sex. It is hoped that this result could make a fear of male pre-service early childhood teacher and could give a hope that male teacher also could be developed as a childhood teacher. Also the result of the study could persuade head or directors of educational institutions to understand the role and contribution of male teachers, which leads their attention to recruiting more male teachers.
