아동 성폭력을 다룬 그림책 : 픽션을 중심으로

Representations of Child Sexual Abuse in Fiction Picture Books

성폭력 픽션 그림책이 성폭력에 대한 어떤 메시지를 전하고 있는지 알아보기 위해 2012년까지 출판된 성폭력 픽션 그림책을 수집하여 문학요소에 따라 내용을 분석하였다. 분석한 성폭력 픽션 그림책의 주인공은 모두 나이 어린 여아였으며, 가해자는 대부분 주인공이 평소에 알고 있는 가족을 포함한 주변의 성인 남자였다. 주로 아동의 집에서 성폭력이 발생했으며, 가해자는 비밀을 지키라고 아동을 협박하였다. 혼란스러운 아동은 내적 갈등을 겪지만, 결국 용기를 내어 엄마 또는 믿을만한 어른에게 사실을 고백하게 된다. 성폭력 사실이 밝혀지자 가해자는 잡혀가고 피해자인 아동과 격리된다. 분석한 성폭력 픽션 그림책은 논픽션과는 다른 성폭력 관련 갈등을 통해 발전되는 독특한 패턴을 가진 플롯으로 되어 있었으며, 성폭력 예방과 성폭력 발생 시 해야 하는 일과 기타 도움이 필요한 사람들을 위한 필요한 정보를 제공하고 있었다.

Five fiction picture books were analyzed using the literary elements of children’s literature to determine what messages about child sexual abuse are being presented. The categories for the analysis in this study included publication information, provision of a list of helpful organizations and related information, characterization, setting, and plot. All the main characters were young female children. Most of them were sexually abused by a family members in their own homes. The assaulters threatened the little girls not to tell the bad secret, that is the sexual abuse. The little girls struggled with conflicts. Finally, they tell the truth to the adults about what had happened to them. The conflicts that develop the plot were investigated. The assaulters were finally caught and separated from the little girls. These fiction picture books developed conflicts gradually and made unique plots to provide concrete how-to information on child sexual abuse. When inappropriate and hidden secrets are brought to light, there are more possibilities to decrease child sexual crime. Quality fiction picture books might have an important role in pursuing this goal.
