유아의 위험부담 놀이에 대한 교사의 인식

Teachers' perception of risk-taking behaviors in children

본 연구는 최근 북유럽을 중심으로 위험부담 놀이에 관한 긍정적인 논의가 이루어지고 있는 현실에서 우리나라 유아들의 위험부담 놀이에 대한 교사의 생각과 위험부담 놀이를 대처하는 방안을 살펴봄으로써 위험부담 놀이에 대해 혼란스러워하는 예비 유아교사 및 현직 유아교사를 지원하는 기초자료를 제공하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 2013년 6월부터 8월까지 강원도와 충청도의 유아교사14명을 대상으로 개별면담과 참여관찰을 실시하였다. 연구결과, 교사들은 위험부담 놀이를 격려하기도 하지만, 금지하기도 하였으며, 혼돈스러워 하기도 하였다. 위험부담 놀이와 관련하여 교사가 사용하는 대처방안은 유아들의 위험부담 놀이를 가까이에서 지켜보기, 시범보이기, 다른 놀이로 전환하기, 기다리고 권유하기, 놀이에 참여하여 확장하기로 나타났다. 이러한 연구결과는 바람직한 위험부담 놀이의 방향과 유아의 위험부담 놀이의 의미에 대해 부모, 교사, 교육기관 간의 소통이 필요함을 시사하며, 이와 더불어 위험부담 놀이에 대한 다양한 대처방안 중에서 유아의 발달에 적합한 대처방안을 사례 중심으로 교육현장에 보급하고자 하는 노력이 필요함을 시사한다.

Positive discussions about risk-taking behaviors have recently been implemented in Northern Europe. This study was conducted to keep up with this trend. The purpose of this study was to provide fundamental data to pre-service early childhood teachers and existing teachers who are confused about risk-taking behaviors by investigating teachers' management skills and their thoughts on risk-taking. Individual interviews and participant observations were performed from March to August, 2013. The subjects consisted of 14 teachers from early childhood institutes in the Gangwon-do and Chungcheong-do areas in, Korea. The following significant points were found through this study. While teachers actively adopted risk-taking behaviors, they sometimes felt confused and prevented risk-taking behaviors in children. The following are some of the management skills for risk-taking behaviors: close observation, example demonstration, changing activities, wait and recommend, teacher participation and play extension. The results suggest that it is necessary to communicate with parents, teachers, and educational institutes about what are the appropriate risk-taking behaviors and how significant the behaviors are for children. Additionally, efforts are needed in the childhood educational field to provide examples of management skills which allow children to develop properly.
