The Effects of An Early Childhood Mathematics Program Using Picture Books: Based on Nuri-Curriculum for 5-year-old Children

본 연구의 목적은 3~5세 연령별 누리과정의 수학교육 내용체계에 근거하여 구성한 그림책을 활용한 유아수학교육이 만 5세 유아의 수학적 능력, 수학적 과정기술, 그리고 수학적 태도에 미치는 영향을 알아보는 것이다. 연구의 대상은 서울특별시 N구와 Y구에 위치하고 있는 유아교육기관에 재원 중인 만 5세반 유아 76명이다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 그림책을 활용한 유아수학교육 프로그램은 만 5세반 유아의 전체 수학적 능력과 수학적 능력의 하위요인들 중 수와 연산, 측정, 규칙성, 자료 이해 능력을 향상시키는데 효과가 있었다. 둘째, 그림책을 활용한 유아수학교육 프로그램은 만 5세반 유아의 전체 수학적 과정기술과 수학적 과정기술의 하위요인들 중 문제해결하기와 의사소통하기를 향상시키는데 효과가 있었다. 셋째, 그림책을 활용한 유아수학교육 프로그램은 만 5세반 유아의 전체 수학적 태도와 수학적 태도의 모든 하위요인들인 수학에 대한 흥미, 유능감, 그리고 끈기를 향상시키는데 효과가 있었다.

This study investigated the effects of an early childhood mathematics program using picture books on the mathematics ability, mathematics process skills, and attitude toward mathematics of 5-year-old children. The subjects consisted of 76 5-year-old children; among these, 37 formed the experimental and 39 formed the control group. A detailed analysis of mathematics ability, mathematics process skills, and attitude toward mathematics levels was undertaken to determine the homogeneity of the two groups. A broad variety of activities using picture-books which were developed based on Nuri-curriculum were applied to the experimental group for a 16-week period. The results of this study were as follows: the early childhood mathematics program using picture books was effective in strengthening 5-year-old children's levels of mathematics ability, mathematics process skills, and attitude toward mathematics.
