24-hour K-Nursery Care Stories

본 연구는 K어린이집의 24시간 보육을 보다 면밀히 분석하여 영유아와 보육교사에게 주는 의미를 다각도로 조명·탐색하고 이를 통해 24시간 보육의 현주소를 토대로 보다 바람직한 24시간 보육 정착을 위한 기초자료를 제공하고자 K어린이집 영유아 7명, 보육교사 13명을 연구 참여자로 심층면담과 참여관찰 및 저널 등을 통해 수집한 자료들에 대한 질적 분석이 이루어졌다. 연구결과, K어린이집 영유아들은 어렵고 불가피한 가정환경과 피치 못할 보호자들의 상황에 의해 24시간 보육 상황에 놓여있었고 부모나 가족에 대한 그리움이나 마음의 상처들이 부정적인 내용들로 드러나기도 하였으나, 보육교사들과 또래 영유아들과의 지속적인 관계형성과 자연스러운 일상의 경험들을 통해 하루하루 건강하게 성장해 가고 있었다. 또한 K어린이집 보육교사들은 끊임없이 이루어지는 순환적 연계보육을 통해 24시간 보육을 담당하면서 영유아들에게 많은 사랑과 정성으로 헌신적 돌봄과 교육을 제공하면서 무럭무럭 자라가는 아이들에게서 큰 기쁨과 보람을 느끼고 있었다. 그러나 보육교사들은 쉼 없이 이루어지는 보육과 그로 인한 과중한 업무들로 인해 보육교사로서의 육체적, 심리적 어려움들에 직면해 있었다. 수많은 어려움 속에서도 이들이 지금까지 24시간 보육을 묵묵히 감당해오고 있는 만큼 그에 합당한 수준으로의 처우개선이 요구되며, 영유아들에게 24시간 보육을 계속해서 제공함에 있어서는 이들이 밖으로 미처 다 표현하지 못하고 있는 그들만의 특별한 필요와 요구에 보다 더 민감하게 반응하여 이를 충분히 반영할 수 있는 방향으로 24시간 보육의 개선이 필요할 것이다.

This study aimed to understand the current status of caring in the 24-hour care nursery by looking at care stories between children and nursery teachers for 24 hours, and to provide basic information to enable children to settle down in a 24-hour care system. 7 children and 13 teachers from K-Nursery participated in the study and the data was analyzed qualitatively from in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and journals. The results showed that children were put in the 24-hour care situation inevitably due to parents or family matters and they expressed their negative feelings such as yearning or feeling separation anxiety for parents and families. However, they progressed well through their continuous relationships with teachers and natural daily experiences. The teachers felt a sense of big happiness and joy by looking at the growing children with care and education based on their love and sacrifice. However, the teachers faced physical and psychological difficulties because the child care required work with no breaks resulting in a heavy work load. The level of treatment for teachers should be improved reasonably, as they bore 24-hour care patiently with many difficulties. It is necessary to provide a continuous 24-hour care system and to improve the quality of 24-hour care reflecting children's particular needs and demands.
