경도 지적장애 아동의 언어발달 및 소근육 운동능력 향상을 위한 미술치료 단일사례연구

A Single Case Study of Art Therapy for the Language Development and Small Muscle Motor Ability Improvement of Children with Mild Intellectual Disabilities

본 연구는 미술치료가 경도 지적장애 아동의 언어발달 및 소근육 운동능력에 미치는 영향을 알아보는데 목적이 있다. 연구대상은 A시에 소재한 초등학교 2학년 지적장애 여아로 2022년 11월부터 2023년 4월까지 주 1회 50분씩 총 24회기를 진행하였다. 측정 도구로는 언어발달 향상을 알아보기 위하여 취학전 아동의 수용언어 및 표현언어 발달 척도(Preschool Receptive – Expressive Language Scale: PRES)검사를 실시하였고, 소근육 운동능력 향상을 알아보기 위하여 발달수준 평가도구(Korea Institute for Special Education: KISE)를 실시하였으며 두 도구 모두 사전․사후를 측정하여 양적․질적 변화의 정도를 비교분석 하였다. 연구 결과로는 첫째, 미술치료가 경도 지적장애 아동의 언어발달 향상에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 파악되는 가운데 인지적인 내용을 이해하고 표현하는 인지/의미론적 하위영역에서 더욱 두드러진 변화가 측정되었다. 둘째, 미술치료가 경도 지적장애 아동의 소근육 운동능력 중 하위영역인 쓰기능력 및 정교성에서 좀 더 발전된 변화를 보이는 것으로 측정되었다. 본 연구를 종합해 볼 때 매 회기 미술매체를 활용한 언어적 시범이 모방발화를 유도하여 경도 지적장애 아동의 수용․표현 언어발달에 긍정적 변화를 주었으며 매체 조작을 통해 소근육 운동능력 향상에도 직접적인 도움이 될 수 있음을 보여주었다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 본 연구의 의의와 제한점에 대하여 논의하였다.

This study purposed to investigate the effect of art therapy on the language development and small muscle motor ability improvement of children with mild intellectual disabilities. The study subjects were second-grade girls with intellectual disability attending an elementary school in A city and took 24 therapy sessions weekly for 50 minutes from November 2022 to April 2023. As a research tool, the study performed the Preschool Acceptive-Express Language Scale(PRES) test to examine their language development, conducted the Korea Institute for Special Education(KISE) to see their small muscle motor ability improvement, and both tests measured before and after and compared the degree of quantitative and qualitative changes. The research results were as follows. First, art therapy was positively effective in their language development and showed more significant changes in the cognitive/semantic sub-areas of cognitive content. Second, art therapy showed more advanced changes in writing ability and sophistication, which were sub-areas of their muscle ability. Putting this study together, verbal demonstrations using art media in each session induced imitation speech, positively changing their language development and media manipulation directly helped their small muscle motor skills improvement. Based on these findings, the study discussed the significance and limitations.
