국내 창작 그림책에 나타난 음식과 식생활의 내용 분석

Content Analysis of Food and Dietary Life Represented in Korean Picture Books

본 연구의 목적은 첫째, 국내 창작 그림책에 나타난 음식과 어린이 등장인물들의 식생활을 분석하여 현대 어린이의 식생활이 그림책에 어떻게 반영되어있는지 살펴보고 둘째, 그림책에 그려지는 음식과 식생활의 서사적 측면을 규명하는 것이다. 이를 위해 국내에서 출판된 한국 창작 그림책 베스트셀러 중 음식이 등장하는 그림책 64권을 선정하여 이들 그림책의 글과 그림에 나타난 음식과 어린이의 식생활에 대한 내용분석을 실시하였다. 연구 결과, 분석 대상 그림책에 나타난 음식으로는 채소·과일류가 가장 많았으며 어린이가 먹은 음식으로는 곡류가 가장 많았다. 또한 이들 그림책에 나타난 어린이는 주로 집에서 혼자 먹는 모습으로 묘사되었다. 즉, 그림책에 그려진 음식과 어린이의 식생활은 우리 사회의 어린이의 식생활이 반영하고 있었다. 또한 음식을 먹는 장면들은 주로 장면과 인물을 묘사하고 도입과 갈등을 야기하는 등 서사의 플롯과 배경으로서 역할을 하고 있었다. 본 연구의 결과는 음식과 먹는 행위가 어린이가 보는 그림책에서 매우 중요한 문학적 소재로 사용되고 있음을 보여준다.

The purpose of this study is first, to find out how Korean picture books reflect a dietary life of today's Korean children by analyzing foods and dietary life represented in picture books, secondly to examine the literary role of food and dietary life in the narrative. For these purposes, 64 best selling Korean picture book titles in which food was represented were collected and analyzed using content analysis. The results showed that in the picture books, the images of vegetable and fruit and child characters eating a grain appeared the most frequently. In addition, child characters were likely to eat alone. Overall, the food and dietary life represented in picture books was likely to reflect Korean children's dietary life in these days. More important is that from the literary aspect, the food and dietary life represented in the picture books mainly played a background role related to a scene or a character as well as a plot such as an introduction and a conflict. As a result of this study, it is proved that foods and eating are important literary materials in children’s picture books.
