그림책에서의 만화적 표현 연구 - 매체 변환의 관점을 중심으로 -

A Study on Cartoonish Expression in Picturebooks

본 연구는 그림책의 이미지를 구성하는 다양한 매체들 중에서 대표적으로 만화 장르를 선택하여 서사가 있는 그림책의 이미지에 나타나는 만화적인 표현을 분석함으로써 그 특징과 의미를 찾는 것이 목적이다. 만화적 표현으로는 프레임, 캐릭터, 동작선, 타이포그래피, 말풍선, 배경 등의 요소를 대상으로 하였다. 그림책에서는 작은 프레임의 연속적인 사용, 말풍선, 동작선과 중첩동작 등의 만화적 표현이 의미 있게 사용되고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 한편, 배경의 만화적 표현은 공간적 묘사라기보다는 감정의 묘사라는 점에서 회화적 배경과는 상이하였다. 이로부터 그림책에서의 만화적 표현은 그림책에 역동성과 속도감이 있는 이미지를 구성하고 전달하려는 메시지를 직접적으로 나타낼 수 있다는 특징이 있으며, 기존의 그림책이 담보하고 있는 문학성과 예술성에 정보전달력을 더할 수 있고 독자에게 더욱 친근하게 느껴질 수 있다는 데에서 그 의미를 찾을 수 있다.

Among various media imagesof picturebooks, this study selected a genre of cartoon and analyzed cartoonish images in predicative picturebooks, in order to find the significance and meaning of it. Frames, characters, motion lines, typographies, balloons, and settings were considered as a cartoonish expression. The results of this study were as follows: Firstly, usage of continuative small frames, speech bubbles, motion lines and overlapped motions are effectively used in picturebooks. Cartoonish expressions like the above mentioned have significance as well as the ability to construct dynamic and zoomy images, and to deliver messages explicitly. Besides, cartoonish expressions of settings are effective to express emotions and situations of characters with emphasis. Second, the meaning of picture books with cartoonish expressions is that they reinforce a function of information delivery and enlarged enjoyment to existing picture books, which already have literary and artistic value. Using cartoonish expressions inpicture books can result more diverse themes or topics available, eventually not only fictional, but also nonfictional information and knowledge can be conveyed in a friendlier way to readers.
