본 연구는 D시에 소재한 J유치원, 만 5세 열린반 유아들의 자유놀이에서 이야기를 이끄는 숨겨진 힘의 양상에 대하여 현상학적 접근으로 이해하고자 하였다. 이러한 연구의 목적은 교사 및 성인의 접근에 있어서, 유아 이야기에서 잘 드러나지 않는 힘의 관계를 밝힘으로써 유아 이야기 세계에 보다 가까이 다가서는 방식을 모색하고자 함이다. 이를 위해 2013년 4월부터 10월까지, 총 7개월 동안의 밀착관찰을 통해 만 5세 유아들의 자유놀이 상황에서 자연스럽게 소통되는 이야기를 연구자의 현장노트와 녹음, 면담 및 연구일기 기록을 통해 자료를 수집하였다. 연구결과, 만 5세 유아들의 자유놀이에서 이야기를 이끄는 숨겨진 힘은 크게 ‘경험’, ‘단짝 친구’, ‘집단’의 양상으로 구분되었다. 그리고 이러한 각각의 양상은 유아 이야기의 근저에서 ‘유아이야기를 이끄는 표리부동(表裏不同)의 힘’과 ‘이야기를 좌지우지(左之右之)하는 힘’, 그리고 ‘이야기의 존페(存廢)를 결정하는 힘’으로 작용하고 있었다. 본 연구는 유아 이야기의 접근에 있어서, 자유로운 놀이를 통해 표면적으로 드러나는 이야기 이면에서 작용하는 잠재적 힘의 존재를 의식하고 유아 이야기에 온전히 귀 기울임의 가치를 일깨우고 있다. 이러한 노력은 유아의 이야기세계에 대한 이해를 돕고, 결국 유아를 향한 실천적 지식의 안목을 향상시킴으로써 보다 편안하고 바람직한 교육의 실제에 영향을 줄 수 있을 것이다.

This study was planned to understand the aspects of potential powers based on a phenomenological way to conduct a story in the free play of five-year-old children of J Kindergarten in D City. The purpose of this study is to find out more efficient approaches to story world of preschoolers by teachers and adults by identifying the relation of original power with respect for their stories. For this study, it has been conducted close observations to stories communicating in the free play of five-year-old children for 7 months of April to October, 2013, by which data were collected through field notes, recording, interviewing and research daily. As a result of the study, the potential power to conduct a story in this group fell into three aspects of 'experience', 'best friend' and 'group.' And these aspects worked as 'treacherous power to draw children's story', 'story-controling power' and 'decision power of maintaining or abolishing story' at the basis of children story. This study is of significance for recognizing the potential power working in the hidden side of the story and realizing that listening to children is the basic attitude to take before teaching and understanding them.
