P대학교 부속 유치원 교사가 겪는 어려움과 보람 그리고 희망

Living as Teachers in the Attached Kindergarten of University

본 연구는 D광역시에 위치한 P대학교 부속 유치원 교사들의 어려움과 보람 그리고 희망에 대한 이야기를 통해 교사들의 근무환경 개선에 필요한 기초자료를 제공하기 위한 것이다. 이에 P대학교 부속 유치원 교사 8명을 연구 참여자로 선정하여 개별면담 및 저널 등을 통해 수집한 자료들에 대한 질적분석이 이루어졌다. 연구결과, P대학교 부속 유치원 교사들은 일반 유아교육기관의 역할과 동시에 ‘대학의 기능’을 수행해야 하는 데서 오는 과중한 업무로부터 직무 스트레스를 경험하고 있었으며, 외부에서 기대하는 대학교 부속 유치원의 역할을 수행하기 위한 유치원 공개 및 수업참관 준비로 인한 어려움을 호소하기도 하였다. 이외에도 대학교 부속 유치원 교사에 대한 주위의 기대감으로부터 오는 ‘사회적 완벽주의’ 에 대한 심리적 부담감을 느끼고 있었다. 수많은 어려움 속에서도 대학교 부속 유치원 교사들은 주위로부터 받는 인정과 지지를 얻고, 교사와 함께 변화하고 성장해 가는 유아들의 모습과 학부모들의 따뜻한 격려와 인정을 통해 교사로서 살아갈 힘을 얻기도 하였다. 이처럼 대학교 부속유치원 교사들은 열악한 근무환경 속에서 보람을 찾아가며 살아가고 있으며, 유아교육의 질적 발전을 위해 대학교 부속 유치원 교사로서의 역할을 묵묵히 감당해오고 있는 만큼 그에 합당한 처우개선이 요구되며, 밖으로 미처 다 표현하지 못하고 있는 그들만의 특별한 필요와 요구에 보다 더 민감하게 반응하여 이를 충분히 반영할 수 있는 방향으로 이들의 근무환경이 개선되기를 희망하였다.

This study aimed to analyze the teachers’ difficulties, joys, and hopes in the attached kindergarten to the P university located in D city and the results of the study are hoped to be used as basic information to improve working conditions for teachers. The data were collected and analyzed from the individual interviews and journals that 8 teachers participated. The teachers felt difficult with a heavy workload caused by the fact that the kindergarten had to play the role of general kindergarten as well as ‘university function’. Because of many chances to show their classes for the open observation, they felt also difficult. With the external expectations to them, they had a psychological burden to be ‘socially perfect’. In spite of the difficulties, the teachers could obtain power to live through the acknowledgement by people around, the children to grow and change, and the parents’ encouragement. The teachers in the attached kindergarten lived finding the joys even in the poor working condition. Because the teachers work without complaints for the quality development of early childhood education, the better treatment for them should be made and the working condition should be improved in the application of their special needs and request sensitively.
