3세반 유아가 이해한 존 버닝햄 그림책 속 성인상

Perceptions by Three-year-old Children of Images of Adults that Appear in John Burningham's Picturebooks

본 연구는 존 버닝햄 그림책에 나타난 성인상에 대해 3세반 유아의 이해가 어떠한지 밝히는 것에 목적이 있다. 이를 위하여 존 버닝햄 그림책 중 성인상을 드러내는 그림책 7권을 분석대상으로 하여 반구조화된 질문지를 바탕으로 반구조화된 면담을 진행하고 유아의 성인상 이해와 관련된 자료를 수집, 그 내용을 분석하였다. 그 결과, 3세반 유아는 존 버닝햄 그림책 속 성인인물을 유아 자신들에게 애정을 베풀어주는 사람으로 이해하였으며, 유아의 놀이에 긍정적 혹은 부정적으로 관여하느냐에 따라 호감 또는 비 호감으로 성인을 바라보는 모습을 보였다. 또한, 그림책 속 성인인물을 무서운 훈육자로 이해하기도 하였으며 한편으론 안쓰러운 연민의 대상으로서 이해하였다. 이러한 연구는, 사회성이 처음 나타나는 중요한 시기인 3세 유아들의 중요한 인적 환경인 성인인물에 대한 이해를 살펴봄으로써 성인과 유아의 바람직한 관계 형성을 도울 수 있는 기초자료가 될 수 있을 것이다.

The purpose of this study is to understand how young children in a three-year-old class perceive the adults that appear in John Burningham's picturebooks. This study was done on 5 young children in a three-year-old class at G nursery that is located in B City, and the research tool was 7 volumes of John Burningham's picture books. The children perceived adults in a variety of ways. The result shows the young children of three-year-old class perceived the adults in the picture books as people who give love. At first the young children perceived the adults in the picturebooks as reliable people who get along well with children and thought them as people who take care of children. And the young children perceived adults as people who participate in young childrens playing. In case they participated in the play positively, they became active playmates to young children, but they became people with the attitude of bystanders, when they participate in the play negatively. Young children at times perceived the adults in the picturebooks as disciplinarians and, when it is analyzed in detail, they saw the adults as bossy people who control, regulate and observe the rules strictly, who cannot understand the world of young children, who are antagonistic and as people whose words and behaviors do not match. Finally, young children perceived the adults in picturebooks as the object of pity. They saw them as weak and feeble people or they saw them as the people who do hard works for young children.
