숀 탠(Shaun Tan)의 그림책에 나타난 포스트휴먼 탐색

Exploration of Posthuman Found in Shaun Tan’s Picture Books

본 연구는 숀 탠(Shaun Tan)의 그림책에서 나타난 포스트휴먼을 탐색하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 숀 탠의 그림책 중 국내에 번역되고 숀 탠이 글과 그림 작가로 모두 참여한 그림책으로 『빨간 나무』, 『잃어버린 것』, 『도착』, 『여름의 규칙』을 분석대상으로 선정하였다. 분석결과, 숀 탠에 나타난 포스트휴먼은, 첫째, 모호한 경계에 선 혼합체적 존재였다. 둘째, 인간과 탈인간은 공존하고 소통하였다. 셋째, 새로운 인간의 주체성과 자아가 확립되었다. 결국, 숀 탠의 그림책에서 포스트휴먼은 인간과 기계, 유기체와 기계, 물질적인 것과 비물질적인 것, 인간의 내면, 인간과 인간 및 타자와의 낯선 관계를 통해, 현대사회에서 진보한 새로운 인간의 모습을 보여주었다. 포스트휴먼 시대 열린 사고로 새로운 인간에 대한 접근과 이해를 가능하게 하면서, 아동문학과 그림책에서 포스트휴먼의 담론을 바탕으로 새로운 인간의 개념과 가치를 모색해볼 수 있는 기회를 제공하였다.

The purpose of this st dy was to explore posthuman found in Shaun Tan’s picture books. For this purpose, the st dy analyzed picture books like 『The Red Tree』, 『The Lost Thing』, 『The Arrival』 and 『The Rules of Summer』 all of which were written and illustrated by Shaun Tan and translated into Korean. The findings of this st dy can be summarized as follows. First, posthuman found in those picture books are a hybrid existence that stands on uncertain borders. Second, human and posthuman coexists and communicates with each other. Third, posthuman represents a newly established subjectivity and self of human. Thus, posthuman found in the picture books reveals what the new human who advanced in the modern society are like by focusing on relationships between human and machine, organism and machine and between the material and the immaterial, the inside of human and relationships between humans and between human and others. By making it possible to approach and understand the new human from the open perspective of the posthuman era, this st dy provides the opportunity to find the concept and value of the new human in children's literature and picture books according to discourse on posthuman.
