1990년대 이전 한국 그림책의 시대 사회적 조건 고찰: 일러스트레이터 김광배를 중심으로

A Study on the Relation of a Picture Book Illustrator and Social Conditions Before the 1990s

김광배는 60년대부터 80년대까지 가장 중심적으로 활동했던 대표적 그림책 작가이다. 김광배는 60-70년대 교과서 그림과 신문소설 삽화라는 사회적 영향력이 큰 분야에서 활동해왔다. 이를 통해 그는 당시의 이상적인 아동의 이미지를 구현하고 확대 재생산하는 데 주요한 역할을 담당했다. 김광배는 이후, 90년대 한국 그림책 환경의 변화와 함께 세대교체라는 흐름을 맞이하였지만, 동 세대 작가들과 함께 한국 그림책사에 기여한 역할은 매우 크다. 본 연구는 김광배의 활동 과정을 통해, 80년대까지의 그림책을 둘러싼 시대 사회적인 조건을 살펴보는데 목적이 있다. 또한 그림책 작가와 그를 둘러싼 사회적인 조건과의 관계성을 알아보고자 하였다. 그 결과 그림책 작가들의 인식은 해당 시기의 사회가 추구하는 이념, 미술사조, 아동문학론 등과 연관을 맺고 있음을 알 수 있었다.

Kim, Kwang Bae was the most prominent illustrator who worked energetically from the 1960s to 1980s. He had a key role in the socially influential field of textbook pictures in the 1960s-70s and an illustrated serial story in a newspaper. By doing so, he had an important role in embodying the image of ideal children through enlarged-reproduced pictures back in those days. Although, after that period, the environment of Korean picturebooks changed, and he was replaced with a new generation of illustrators. He had a huge impact on the history of Korean picturebooks through contemporary illustrators. The goal of this study was to dertermine the relation of the picturebook illustrator and social conditions by examining the process of his activities. This study examined the activities of picturebook illlustrators be ore the 1990s, focusing on their activities. By doing so, this study came to the conclusion that the illustrators' understanding of picturebooks during that time was a result of strongly relating the art trend of the that time to children's literature and is not the outcome of an independent illustrator.
