지리그림책의 삽화를 활용한 문학적 활동이 유아의 지리개념과 언어표현력에 미치는 영향

The Effects of Literary Activities Using the Illustrations of Children's Geography Picture Books on Language Expression Ability and Geography Concepts of Children

본 연구의 목적은 지리그림책의 삽화를 활용한 문학적 활동이 유아의 지리개념과 언어표현력에 미치는 영향을 알아보는데 있다. 이를 위해 만 5세 유아 40명(실험집단 20명, 비교집단 20명)을 대상으로 실험연구를 설계하고 공변량 분석(ANCOVA)을 실시하였다. 연구결과를 요약하면 첫째, 지리그림책의 삽화를 활용한 문학적 활동이 유아의 지리개념에 긍정적인 영향을 미치고 있으며, 하위요인에서는 방향과 위치, 지도, 유아가 살고 있는 지역, 지리적 환경과 대처방식에서 유의한 차이가 있었으나 다른지역 간의 상호작용 하위요인에서는 유의한 차이가 없는 것으로 분석되었다. 둘째, 지리그림책의 삽화를 활용한 문학적 활동이 유아의 언어표현력에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 분석되었으며, 그림보고 이야기꾸미기, 그림보고 연계성 있게 꾸미기의 하위요인에서 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 결과적으로 지리그림책의 삽화를 활용한 문학적 활동은 유아의 지리개념과 언어표현력발달에 적절한 교육활동 일뿐만 아니라 유아 지리교육에서 지리그림책의 삽화가 유아교육현장의 교육활동에 효과적인 교수매체임을 시사하고 있다.

This study measured the improvement in literary activity through the illustrations of Children’s geography picture books and then applied them to a kindergarten to investigate the result on children’s language expression ability and geography concepts. For this study, forty 5 year-olds were chosen and randomly divided equally into an experimental and comparison group. Pre-and post-tests were administered to both groups and an independent sample ANCOVA was applied, revealing the following interesting results. First, the use of literary activity using the illustrations of children’s geography picture books had a positive effect on all one of the sub-factors for learning related geography concepts; significant differences were found in direction and position, maps, areas where children live, and geographic environment and coping, but not in compliance. Second, the use of literary activities with the illustrations of children’s geography picture books was found to have a positive effect on the children’s language expression ability, and the differences in improvement between each group’s use of language expression ability for sub-picture stories, reported decorating and figure decorating, also yielded statistical differences. This study clearly demonstrates that by using literary activities with the illustrations of children’s geography picture books in early education activities is developmentally appropriate and highly effective because they contributed positively to growth in geography concepts, and learning related to language expression abilities.
