그림책에 나타난 유아교사의 특성 분석

Analysis of the Characteristics of Early Childhood Teachers Portrayed in Picture books

본 연구에서는 유아교사가 등장인물로 나오는 그림책 14권을 선정하여 등장인물로서 유아교사의 특성을 분석하였다. 결과를 보면, 그림책에 등장하는 유아교사는 모두 여성이었으며 미소 띤 얼굴로 유아들을 도와주는 젊은 여교사가 일반적인 모습이었다. 유아교사들은 대부분이 이름이 명시되지 않고 사회적인 호칭인 '선생님'으로 불리어지는 경우가 많았으며 주인공보다 주변인물로 등장하는 경우가 더 많았으며, 입체적인 인물보다 평면적인 인물로 묘사되는 경우가 많았다. 유아교사의 역할로는 양육자 및 지지자의 역할이 가장 많이 나타났다. 그림책에 나타난 유아교사는 사람들이 유아교사에 대해 지니고 있는 이미지에서 크게 벗어나지 않았다. 유아교사의 다양한 면모와 전문적인 역할, 긴밀하고 역동적인 교사-유아관계를 보여 주는 그림책들이 많이 창작된다면, 유아교사와 유아교육 현장에 대한 현실적인 이미지를 형성하는 데 기여할 수 있을 것이다.

In this study, we discussed the characteristics of early childhood teacher by analyzing 14 books that had characters portraying early childhood teachers. The results shows that all early childhood teacher characters were female, usually a young lady who took care of the children with a smile. They were usually called ‘teacher’ rather than by their proper name. In most cases, the characters had a supporting roles among the various roles analyzed such as a supporter, an interactor, an instructor, a carer and a transactor. Additionally, their general features were similar to the stereotypic image of early childhood teachers. This study suggests a new direction for picture books, depicting the professional roles of early childhood teachers, and the intimate-dynamic relationship between children and teachers as follows: picture books should depict realistic images of early childhood teachers.
