Meaning of the Perceptions and Experiences of Administrators in a Bookstart Program

본 연구는 북스타트 프로그램 운영자들의 인식과 경험을 알아보고, 북스타트 프로그램을 활성화시키기 위한 방안을 모색하는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위하여 북스타트 프로그램 운영자인 담당사서, 전문강사와 자원봉사들을 대상으로 면담을 실시하였다. 연구결과 첫째, 북스타트 프로그램은 각 기관에 따라 예산이 다르고, 소속기관과 담당사서에 따라 운영형태가 상이한 것으로 나타났으며 수업 진행의 계획과 운영은 전문강사와 자원봉사자의 재량에 따라 다른 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 북스타트 프로그램담당사서는 업무파악과 북스타트 프로그램 관련 행정적 업무에 대한 어려움을 느끼고 있었으며 전문강사와 자원봉사자는 수업 운영에 대한 어려움을 느끼는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 영유아들의 도서관이용 횟수 증가, 영유아의 발달에 적합한 활동 제공, 어머니와 자녀의 상호작용 증진에 도움을 주는 것에 보람을 느끼는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 북스타트 프로그램 활성화를 위하여 북스타트 프로그램의 본질 찾기, 북스타트 프로그램 홍보, 교재교구 지원, 운영자 대상의 재교육이 필요한 것으로 나타났다. 이에 본 연구는 북스타트 프로그램 운영자의 인식과 경험을 바탕으로 북스타트 프로그램의 활성화 방안을 모색하고 북스타트 프로그램의 중요성을 제고하였다 데 그 의의가 있다.

The purpose of this study was to look for ways to activate a bookstart program by understanding the perceptions of the administrators who have experience with a bookstart program. This study conducted interviews with librarians who were in charge of the the program, professional instructors and volunteers in that order. The results of this study are as follows. First, the bookstart program appeared to be different based on the administration, particularly depending on the character, budget and librarian for each affiliated organization. Planning and management of the educational process seemed to be different depending on the ability of the professional instructors and volunteers. Second, the librarians in charge of the bookstart program had difficulties in understanding the administrative work related to the bookstart program, and the professional instructors and volunteers had difficulties in educational administration. The administrators seemed to think that the children’s program was rewarding because of the increased number of visitations to the library, the activation part of the program that helped infant’s development, and increased interactions between mothers and their children. Third, activation of the bookstart program was needed to find the essence of the bookstart program, to promote the program for support of materials and textbooks, and to reeducate the administrators. The results of this study suggest that by recognizing what administrators think, we can consider meaningful ways to promote bookstart programs.
