환상그림책에서 비튼 결말의 양상

The Aspect of Twist Endings in Fantasy Picture Books

그림책의 내러티브 구조는 시작과 중간이 결말에 의해 재형성되고, 비틀린 결말은 내러티브의 중요한 부분을 숨김으로써 유아들에게 놀라움과 재미를 준다. 본 연구는 환상그림책의 비튼 결말의 양상을 탐구하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 비튼 결말이 포함된 좋은 환상그림책으로 검색된 작품161권 중 한글로 번역된 24권을 분석하였다. 연구결과 환상그림책의 비튼 결말은 의도와 등장인물의 은폐 및 폭로, 절정에서 비튼 결말의 즉각적 종결, 비튼 결말의 점진적 구축, 새로운 시작으로서의 에필로그, 정체성의 반전, 인식의 반전, 성취의 반전, 역전 등의 양상을 보였다. 연구결과는 비튼 결말은 그림책의 서사전개에 영향을 주는 것으로 내러티브 생성의 본질을 탐구하는데 기초자료가 될 것으로 본다.

The purpose of this study was to explore the aspect of twist endings in fantasy picture books. The subject of this study included 24 fantasy picture books with twist endings. The results of the study are as follows: the twist endings in the fantasy picture books concealed various aspects including intentions, hidden characters, dramatic ending at the climax, disturbing epilogues, reversal of identity, reversal of perception, progressive building of the twist ending, and turnaround. The patterns as well as the textual and graphic strategies, which characterize the surprise endings in picture books, enable us to go deeper into defining the levels of complexity according to the type of cognitive functions that the twist endings trigger. This study suggests that the patterns of concealment and revelation in the narrative, and the interplay of the text and image, and the physical dimension of the picture books all can help to create the meaning of the story. The significance of this study is that it sheds new light on the structure of plots in fantasy picture books with twist endings.
