이야기 릴레이 활동에 나타난 유아의 상상적 내러티브 연구

A Study on Children's Imaginative Narrative Found in a Story Relay Activity

본 연구는 이야기 릴레이 활동을 통해 나타난 유아의 상상적 내러티브의 특성을 살펴보고자 한다. 이를 위해 B시에 위치한 N병설유치원의 만 4세 학급 유아들을 대상으로 한 달간 이야기 릴레이 활동을 실시하였고 총 30회의 활동 사례를 자료로 수집하여 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 첫째, 유아들은 다양한 응집장치와 자신만의 시간 전략을 사용하여 협력적 내러티브를 구성하였다. 둘째, 유아들은 서로의 이야기에 귀 기울이며 이야기가 맥락을 벗어나지 않도록 소통하였다. 셋째, 유아들은 화자와 청자의 입장을 오가며 이야기의 부족한 내용을 보완하였고, 이야기를 더 재미있게 전달하기 위해 신체를 활용하기도 하였다. 마지막으로 현실계와 상상계를 넘나드는 유아의 이야기는 순간순간 발생하는 유아의 흥미의 욕망을 따라 전개되었다. 본 연구를 통해, 화자와 청자의 사이, 현실과 상상의 사이를 넘나들며 상상적 내러티브를 구성하는 유아의 이야기 능력을 확인할 수 있었으며, 유아의 내러티브 구성 및 표현 능력과 의사소통능력을 자극할 수 있는 이야기 릴레이 활동의 가치 또한 알 수 있었다. 앞으로 유아교육현장에서 유아의 상상력과 협동심을 자극할 수 있는 다양한 내러티브 활동이 탄생하길 기대해본다.

The purpose of this study was to examine the characteristics of children’s imaginative narrative found in a story relay activity. To this end, a story relay activity was done for a month with children attending the 4-year-old class of N-affiliated Kindergarten located in B City. A total of 30 activity cases were collected as materials for analysis. According to the analysis results, first, children organized a cooperative narrative employing various cohesion devices and their own time strategies. Second, children listened to each other’s story and tried to communicate not making their story off the context. Third, children went back and forth from the position of a narrator and a listener and complemented what was lacking in the story. To deliver an even more interesting story, sometimes, they used their body as well. Lastly, the children’s story crossing the line between the real world and imaginary world developed according to their desires and interests that happened to arise in each moment. In this study, this author found children’s story-telling skills to organize an imaginative narrative crossing the line between a narrator and a listener and between reality and imagination. Additionally, the value of the story relay activity was shown to stimulate children’s narrative organization and expression skills as well as communicative competency. In the future, a variety of narrative activities will need to be produced that can encourage children’s imagination and cooperative spirit in the field of early childhood education.
