『장자』에 나타난 무용지용(無用之用)의 의미가 유아교육에 주는 함의 탐색

A Study on the Implication of Early Childhood Education in the 'Muyongjiyong(無用之用)' of Chuang-tzu

본 연구는 『장자』 내편에 나타난 無用之用의 의미를 살펴봄으로써 그 의미가 유아교육에 주는 함의를 탐색해보고자 하였다. 無用之用이란 만물이 하나에서 비롯되었기 때문에 모두 동등하다는 입장에서, 만물은 각각의 쓸모를 지닌다고 보았으며, 한 대상에 대한 쓸모 있고 없음은 상대적이라는 점에서 나뉠 수 없는 하나임을 드러낸다. 이러한 無用之用의 의미가 유아교육에 주는 함의는 첫째, 개별아이가 지닌 用(가치)를 발견하는 유아교육, 둘째, 만물의 有用無用을 아이와 함께 탐구하는 유아교육, 셋째, 無用之用을 삶에서 실현하는 유아교육이 되어야 한다는 것이다. 장자의 無用之用이 주는 의미를 바탕으로 유아교육에서의 아동관을 새롭게 정립하고 교육내용 및 교육방법을 재고찰해보는 것은 유아교육의 본질을 되짚어보고 유아를 위한 유아교육으로 나아갈 수 있는 단초를 제공해줄 수 있다는 점에서 의미가 있다고 사료된다.

The purpose of this study was examine the implication of ‘Muyongjiyong(Usefulness of Useless Things 無用之用)’ appearing in the main theme of 『Chuang-tzu』 to determine its implications in early childhood education. As a result, ‘Muyongjiyong’ considers that all matters have a respective use under the position that all things come from one object for all matters to be equivalent. It shows that a matter is indivisible one from the perspective that it is relative as being useful or useless. The implication for such a meaning in Muyongjiyong’ in early childhood education is as follows. First, early childhood education has to discover the use for an individual child. Second, early childhood education has to search for the Yuyongmuyong(usefulness and uselessness) of all things together with the child. And, third, early childhood education has to realize ‘Muyongjiyong’ in life. This study re-examined the concept of children and reconsidered the contents and methods of education in the early childhood education based on the significance of Chuang-tzu's Muyongjiyong. So this study is meaningful to review the essence of early childhood education and to provide a clue for early childhood education for children.
