그림책을 활용한 철학적 탐구공동체 활동이 유아의 과학적 태도와 과학적 탐구능력에 미치는 영향

An analysis on the Effects of the Activities of the Philosophical Community of Inquiry Using Picture Books on Young Children's Scientific Attitudes and Scientific Process Skills

본 연구는 그림책을 활용한 철학적 탐구공동체 활동이 5세 유아의 과학적 태도와 과학적 탐구능력에 미치는 영향을 알아보는 데 목적을 두고 있다. 일상적 사고 경험이나 사고 교육을 통해서도 과학적 능력을 향상시킬 수 있다는 견해에 착안한 연구로서, 서울시 S구에 위치한 S유치원에 재원 중인 5세유아 48명(실험집단 24명, 비교집단 24명)을 대상으로 2015년 8월부터 12월까지 총 12주간 수행되었다. 그림책 11권을 연구 자료로 선정하여 도입과 최종회기를 포함하여 그림책 1권 당 2회기씩 총 24회기에 걸쳐 철학적 탐구공동체 활동을 실시한 결과는 다음과 같다. 그림책을 활용한 철학적 탐구공동체 활동에 참여한 실험집단이 비교집단보다 과학적 태도의 8개 요소 즉 호기심, 자진성과 적극성, 솔직성, 객관성, 개방성, 비판성, 판단유보, 협동성에서 유의미한 차이를 나타내고 있었다. 또한 실험집단은 비교집단보다 과학적 탐구능력의 4개 요소 즉 예측하기, 관찰하기, 분류하기, 토의하기 등에서 유의미한 차이를 보였다. 이는 그림책을 활용한 철학적 탐구공동체 활동이 5세 유아들의 과학적 태도와 과학적 탐구능력 신장을 위한 교육방법으로써 역할 할 수 있음을 의미한다.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the influences on scientific attitudes and scientific process skills through the activities of the philosophical community of inquiry using picture books for young children in S kindergarten in S borough in Seoul. The research subjects who participated in the thinking-experiments were forty-eight children who were all five-year-olds and were divided into two groups (24 children as the experimental group and the other 24 children as the comparison group). The research was conducted from August to December 2015.The results of the study were as follows. First, young children's experiences of philosophical community inquiry activities with picture books created significant influences on the total scores of 8 elements of scientific attitudes of the children in the experimental group compared with the comparison group, such as curiosity, independency and positive-ness, candidness, objectivity, openness(open-mindedness), criticism, reserving judgment, and cooperativity. Second, depending on experiences or no-experience in the activities of the philosophical community of inquiry using picture books, the variable gave differences in the total scores of young children’s scientific process skills, such as predicting, observing, classifying, and discussing.In conclusion, young children need to participate in activities of the philosophical community of inquiry and practice philosophical inquiry using picture books to cultivate young children’s scientific attitudes and scientific process skills.
