전래동화에 나타난 분리불안의 특성연구 : 그림책을 중심으로

A Study on the Characteristics of the Separation Anxiety in Traditional Fairy Tales: Focusing on Picture Books

본 연구는 유아들의 분리불안 내용을 내포한 전래동화에서 공통적으로 나타나는 분리불안의 과정과 내용의 분석을 통해 분리불안의 발생과 극복 해소의 과정은 어떻게 일어나고 어떤 의미를 갖는지 탐구하는 것이다. 이를 위해 전래동화에서 분리불안 관련 그림책 41권을 선정하고, Vladimir Propp의 ‘민담형태론’의 내용을 참조하여 추출해 낸 분리불안의 발생과 극복 해소의 과정 표상 요소들로 그림책 내용 분석준거를 구성하여 전래동화에 나타난 분리불안의 특성을 분석하였다. 연구결과 전래동화에 나타난 분리불안의 발생과 극복 해소는 내적 갈등을 야기하는 분리불안의 전조, 갈등 극복을 위한 낯선 세계로의 떠남, 자신과 타인에 의한 분리불안의 극복 시도, 분리불안의 해소에 의한 행복한 결말로 나타났다. 주인공들은 스스로 자립을 인식하거나, 미숙한 상태에 있어 내몰리거나, 부모의 부재에 의해 떠나는 등 다양한 심리 요인에 의한 불안에 직면하게 되어 낯선 세계로 경계 넘기를 하지만, 내적 갈등을 통한 노력으로 긴장과 불안을 해소하고 비로소 독립된 존재로 분리되면서 심리적인 목적을 이루게 된다. 본 연구는 분리불안이 전래동화에 나타난 양상을 이해하는데 도움을 주고, 분리불안 관련 그림책 연구와 창작에 기초자료로 활용될 수 있다고 본다.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the process and contents of separation anxiety commonly seen in fairy tales and examine how separation anxiety in fairy tales emerges and is overcome. For this study, a total of 41 picture books were selected and analyzed according to the analysis criteria of separation anxiety developed by the Vladimir Propp’s Model. The results of the study were as follows: The separation anxiety was based on such ‘portents of separation’ as characters’ voluntary separation, being separated by the sender, mother/father’s death, forbidden violation, being deprived by the antagonist and bad mother’s jealousy. From a psychological point of view, it means that children should explore, research, and experience adventures in order to grow up. At this point, there were some conflicts that children can overcome for themselves, while other conflicts were so difficult to resolve that they received help from their supporters or were protected from evil by magical items, which means a character of children having a growth challenge as an inexperienced person. Lastly, as for the ‘ending aspects of characters’, they overcame the separation anxiety as a happy ending with all the anxiety elements completely removed, a happy ending with the anxiety elements not removed or partially removed, and a happy ending with nothing to punish. It is a typical characteristic of the storyline of fairy tales, but there is always an important rule from a psychological aspect. In conclusion, this study showed the psychological meaning of separation anxiety embedded in fairy tales. The significance of this study could include the provision of baseline data for developing fairy tale picture book related to separation anxiety.
