가브리엘 뱅상의 <에르네스트와 셀레스틴> 시리즈에 나타난 좋은 부모됨(good parenting)

Good Parenting displayed in Gabrielle Vincent's <Ernest and Celestine> Picture Book Series

본 연구는 가브리엘 뱅상의 그림책 <에르네스트와 셀레스틴> 시리즈 22종에 나타난 좋은 부모됨의 요소를 통해 현대 가족의 형태와 구조 안에서 우리가 지향해야 할 부모의 의미가 무엇인지를 탐색하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 그림책의 글, 그림, 페리텍스트를 반복하여 읽으며 주인공인 에르네스트와 셀레스틴 관계를 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 작품 속에 나타난 좋은 부모됨의 모습은 첫째, 무조건적 사랑을 보이는 부모의 모습, 둘째, 아이와 함께 시간을 보내는 부모의 모습, 셋째, 효과적인 의사소통을 하는 부모의 모습, 넷째, 아이에게 바람직한 모델링이 되는 부모의 모습으로 요약되었다. 본 연구의 결과는 <에르네스트와 셀레스틴> 시리즈 읽기를 통해 좋은 부모됨의 모습을 입체적이며 구체적으로 제시함으로써 그림책이라는 매체의 교육적 가치를 재확인하고, 나아가 부모교육 프로그램 개발을 위한 유용한 자료를 제공할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

The aim of this study was to explore the meaning of parents that is worth pursuing within the form and structure of the modern family through the elements of good parenting in Gabriell Vincent’s picture book series. To this end, the texts, pictures, and peritexts were read several times, and the relationship between the main protagonists ‘Ernest and Celestine’ was analyzed. As a result, four aspects of good parenting images were identified: first, unconditional love; second, spending time with the children; third, communicating with children effectively, and lastly, being a good role model for children. The results of this study reaffirmed the educational value of the medium of picture books by presenting detailed and multifaceted aspects of good parenting. Additionally, this study provides useful material for the development of parent education programs.
