장 제목과 독자의 의미 구성에 대한 일고찰(一考察)

A Study on Meaning Construction by Chapter Title in a Narrative Text

본고는 무속신화 <바리공주> 원전을 바탕으로 개작된 아동용 텍스트의 서로 다른 장 제목의 특성이 독자의 의미 구성에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 고찰하여, 그 결과 장 제목이 독자의 의미 구성에 다양한 차이를 발생시키는 요인임을 알 수 있었다. 『바리데기 공주』의 장 제목은 독자에게 사실적인 해석의 틀을 제공하여 새로운 정보를 쉽고 정확하게 판단하며 객관적으로 의미를 구성할 수 있도록 돕는다. 『바리공주』의 장 제목은 불완전한 정보를 제공하여 독자는 호기심을 가지고 의미를 추론하고 등장인물에 동화된 주관적인 태도로 의미를 구성한다. 『바리데기』의 장 제목은 제시되는 정보를 조절하여 독서의 흐름을 유도하며 주인공에만 강하게 집중하여 의미를 구성하게 한다. 본고의 결과는 독서 능력이 발달하는 과정에 있는 아동 독자에게 내용의 중요도를 파악할 수 있는 해석의 틀로, 독자의 사고를 자극할 수 있는 전략으로, 독자가 텍스트에 집중할 수 있도록 유도하고 배려하는 장치로 장 제목이 구성되도록 고려해야 함을 시사한다.

This study analyzed how chapter titles of a rewritten text for children titled <Barigongju> affect the meaning construction. As a result, it was found that the chapter title caused various differences in the meaning construction. The chapter titles of 『Baridegi gongju』 functions as a framing tool to the reader. Readers can understand the new information easily and accurately, and objectively construct meaning in the chapter title. The chapter titles of 『Baridegi』 informs the reader of incomplete information. So the reader infers meaning with curiosity and constructs the subjective meaning from the character's standpoint. The chapter titles of 『Baridegi』 guides the path the reader by controlling information. The reader constructs meaning by focusing only on the main character. The results of this study suggest that the chapter title should be presented considering the following points. First, chapter titles provide a framework for young readers to help them understand what is important. Second, chapter titles are strategies used to expand the readers' thinking. Finally, chapter titles are devices that enable the readers to focus on reading.
