Peter Sis의 위인 그림책에 내포된 문학적 상상력 고찰

A Study of Literary Imagination Implied in the Biographical Picturebooks Created by Peter Sis

본 연구는 위인 그림책의 문학성 제고를 위해 방대하고 복잡한 위인의 이야기를 탁월한 독창성과 창의력으로 접근한 점을 높이 평가받고 있는 Peter Sis의 위인 그림책에 내포된 문학적 상상력을 고찰하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 연구대상은 Sis의 작품 중 위인 그림책 4권을 선정하고 그림책의 구성요소와 문학적 상상력의 구성요소를 분석틀로 하여 해석학적 순환과정을 거쳐 분석하였다. Peter Sis의 위인 그림책에 내포된 문학적 상상력의 양상은 모티프의 반복에 의한 위인의 세계관 표상, 자발적 읽기로 이끄는 양면펼침의 그림과 비네트, 특정 크로노토프로 전환하는 시각적 코드로서의 지도, 동시적 다중내러티브와 다중초점화로 인한 불연속적 이야기, 문화적 얽힘의 환상적 이미지 등으로 구체화되어 나타났다. 본 연구 결과, Sis의 위인 그림책에 내포된 문학적 상상력은 위인 그림책의 문학성을 높일 뿐만 아니라 책에 대한 독자의 상호작용 유도, 자발적 읽기 격려, 위대한 삶에 대한 공감과 참조 등의 교육적 의의를 갖는 주요 요인으로 시사하는 바가 크다고 본다.

The purpose of this study was to explore the aspect of literary imagination implied in the biographical picturebooks created by Peter Sis. The subject of this study included 4 biographical picturebooks. For the data analysis, the components of the picturebooks and literary imagination were used as an analysis frame through the hermeneutic circulation process. The results of this study are as follows: the aspect of literary imagination implied in Sis’s biographical picturebooks are the great man’s worldview represented by repetition of motifs, voluntary reading induced by double spread and vignettes, a map transited into specific chronotope as a visual code, discontinuous story by multilayered narratives and multiple focuses, and a fantastic image of cultural entanglement. The results suggest that literary imagination is important factors improving the quality of biographical picturebooks and adding educational significance, encouraging young readers’ interaction with books and voluntary reading, and empathy and reference to a great life.
