본 연구의 목적은 대인관계파탄(예:이별, 실연, 절교)의 경험이 있는 대학생의 대인관계외상의 경험을 세부적이고 심층적으로 탐색하는 데 있다. 이를 위해 대인관계파탄 경험이 있는 대학생 8명을 대상으로 반구조화 질문지를 활용하여 심층인터뷰를 실시하였고, 수집된 자료는 Colaizzi의 현상학적 분석방법을 적용하여 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 4개의 범주와 12개의 주제군, 34개의 주제로 분류되었으며, 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, ‘깊이 연결된 유대의 단절‘에서는 ’원치 않게 파괴된’, ‘서로 종지부를 찍은 관계’의 측면으로 나타나고 있었다. 둘째, 대인관계파탄으로 인해 ‘끊어진 관계로 인한 내면의 고통’으로는 ‘고립된 듯한 텅 빈 마음’, ‘점점 사라져가는 나’, ‘무기력하게 내려놓은 희망’, ‘상대에 대한 증오’, ‘뒤늦게 찾아오는 미련’이 있었다. 셋째, 대인관계파탄에 대하여 ‘고통을 피하려는 거리두기’와 ‘상처를 치유하려는 고군분투’로 당장 내가 살아남기 위한 대처전략이 나타났다. 넷째, 대인관계파탄 이후 ‘대인관계에 대한 회의’와 ‘방어적 심리 반응’, ‘고통을 넘은 성장’을 경험하며 여전한 경계 상태에서 이루어지는 반성적 성찰을 경험하였다. 본 연구를 통해서 대인관계파탄에서 참여자들의 경험에 대한 심층적인 탐색을 하고 그에 대한 의의를 살펴보며 후속 연구를 위한 제언을 제시하였다.
This study explores interpersonal trauma among college students experiencing destroyed interpersonal relationships (e.g., breakups, rejections, and separations). In-depth interviews with eight students, analyzed using Colaizzi’s phenomenological method, revealed four major themes. First, participants described the disruption of “deeply connected bonds,” characterized by “unwanted destruction” and “mutual conclusions.” Second, they expressed inner pain through feelings of “emptiness,” “loss of self,” “hopelessness,” “hatred,” and “regrets.” Third, coping strategies included “distancing to avoid pain” and “struggling to heal.” Finally, after relationship breakdowns, students reported “skepticism about relationships,” “defensive reactions,” and “personal growth beyond pain,” often accompanied by reflective contemplation. This study offers an in-depth exploration of these experiences, examines the significance of the findings, and suggests directions for future research. Overall, it highlights the complex emotional landscape that college students navigate following relationship disruptions.
