Background: Excessive forearm pronation movements during daily activities or work can lead to various issues, such as increased stiffness of the pronator teres muscle and limitations in forearm supination. Previous studies related to the pronator teres muscle have primarily focused on issues associated with diseases such as medial epicondylitis and pronator teres syndrome, but research addressing the extent of changes in muscle stiffness is rare. While both stretching and massage are known to improve muscle function, studies on their combined effects are scarce. Objectives: To investigate the effects of pronator teres stretching combined with massage (PTSCM) on muscle stiffness and forearm supination angle in individuals with limited forearm supination. Methods: A total of 15 participants with limited forearm supination were recruited. Muscle stiffness of pronator teres was measured using the MyotonPro device, and forearm supination angle was measured using a modified hand-held pencil method with the elbow fully extended. Measurements were taken before and after PTSCM. Results: There was a significant decrease in pronator teres muscle stiffness (p < 0.05) and a significant increase in the forearm supination angle (p < 0.05) after performing PTSCM compared with before. Conclusions: PTSCM is an effective intervention for reducing muscle stiffness and increasing the forearm supination angle in individuals with limited supination. These findings highlight the clinical importance of incorporating targeted interventions for improving forearm function.
