인간발달을 바탕으로 한 노인의 소명과 기독교교육적 방안: 조이스 앤 머서의 노인이해를 바탕으로

The Vocation of the Elderly and Christian Educational Approaches Based on Human Development: An Understanding of the Elderly through Joyce Ann Mercer’s Perspectives

[연구 목적] 본 연구의 목적은 초고령화 시대의 도래에 따라, 노년기의 특성과 과제를 사회 발달심리학적 연구와의 대화를 통해 탐구하고 노년기의 소명과 상호의존성에 대한 발달심리학적, 신학적 이해를 바탕으로 노인들이 교회 공동체에서 의미있는 역할을 지속할 수 있도록 기독교 교육적 방안을 제안하는 것이다. [연구 내용] 본 연구에서는 노년기를 단편적으로 지혜자 혹은 목회의 수혜자로 한정하지 않고 그 시기에 맞는 고유한 소명과 가치를 지닌 존재로 새롭게 조명하기 위해 조앤 에릭슨(Joan Erikson, 1997) 그리고 조이스 앤 머서(Joyce Ann Mercer, 2017)의 연구를 살펴본다. 에릭슨의 연구는 노년기 발달에 대한 새로운 관점을 제시하며 노년기 특유의 과제와 현실에 대해 폭넓은 이해를 도와준다. 머서는 노년기에 대한 폭넓은 이해를 제시하며 특히 소명에 대한 생각 변화에 큰 영향을 미쳤다. 이들의 관점을 바탕으로 모든 세대가 함께 성장하고 하나님 안에서 더 깊은 관계를 형성하는 신앙 공동체로 교회를 변화시킬 수 있을 것이다. [결론] 본 연구의 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 노년기에 대한 보다 폭넓은 이해는 노년기 소명과 삶의 풍요로움을 높이는 것에 도움이 된다. 둘째, 기독교 교육은 노인들이 여전히 하나님의 소명 안에서 중요한 역할을 감당할 수 있음을 강조해야 한다. 셋째, 노년기 소명에 대한 이해는 모든 세대가 함께 성장하고 하나님 안에서 더 깊은 관계를 형성하는 신앙 공동체로 교회를 변화하는데 핵심적인 역할을 한다.

[Objective] This study aims to explore the characteristics and tasks of old age within a super-aged society, proposing Christian educational strategies that enable the elderly to play meaningful roles in the church community. This exploration incorporates insights from social developmental psychology and theological perspectives on vocation and interdependence in later life. [Contents] Moving beyond a limited view of the elderly as merely wise figures or passive recipients of pastoral care, this study highlights the unique vocation and value of this life stage. Drawing on Joan Erikson’s (1997) and Joyce Ann Mercer’s (2017) work, Erikson provides a fresh perspective on the unique tasks and realities of old age, while Mercer expands our understanding of aging and vocation in later life. These perspectives support a vision of the church as an intergenerational community fostering growth and deeper relationships with God. [Conclusions] As a results of the study, a broader understanding of old age contributes to enhancing the richness and purpose of life in later years. Church education should emphasize that the elderly continue to play essential roles within God’s calling. Third, a deeper understanding of vocation in old age plays a key role in transforming the church into a faith community where all generations grow together and form deeper relationships with God.
