This paper, as part of the study on the cognitive and pragmatic aspects of sensory words during the Ming and Qing dynasties, constitutes a macro-level preliminary study focusing on analyzing the dictionary meanings of the spatial visual term ‘近’(near). To achieve this, we centered on the meaning entries from the Hanyu Da Cidian and referenced Shuowen Jiezi and Hanyu Yuanliu Dictionary to examine the meanings and expansion processes of each entry. Through metonymy, metaphor, and metaphtonymy, we utilized image schema to examine in detail the conceptualization process of the spatial visual term 近’(near). When organized according to conceptual hierarchy, we identified that in the human domain, 近5 and 近10 are activated based on the spatial domain (prototypical meaning); in the activity-process domain, 近3 and 近4 are active; in the temporal domain, 近6 and 近7; and in the qualitative domain, 近2, 近8, 近9, 近10, and 近11 are activated.
