Objectives: This study aims to evaluate the weight loss effect and adverse events in elderly female patients with overweight and obesity who are using Gamitaeeumjowee-tang. Methods: A retrospective chart review was conducted on women aged 60 to 75 years with overweight and obesity who participated in a 12-week weight loss program using Gamitaeeumjowee-tang. Changes in weight, body mass index (BMI), body fat mass, skeletal muscle mass, body fat percentage, skeletal muscle percentage, waist-hip ratio, and blood pressure were evaluated pre- and post-intervention. Adverse events were analyzed for causality and severity and categorized according to system-organ classes. Results: At the conclusion of the program, the mean weight loss was 4.66±2.62 kg(6.39±3.58%), and the mean BMI decreased by 1.93±1.09 kg/m2 (P<0.05). A total of 66.3% of participants achieved a weight loss of more than 5%. The average body fat percentage decreased by 7.78±5.19%, while the skeletal muscle percentage increased by 5.94±3.77% (P<0.05). On average, systolic blood pressure decreased by 8.18±15.61 mmHg, and diastolic blood pressure decreased by 3.75±9.99 mmHg compared to baseline, both statistically significant (P<0.001). Of the reported adverse events, 94.9% were classified as mild, with no severe adverse events recorded. Causality assessments indicated that 61.6% of the adverse events were evaluated as 'unlikely'. Conclusions: Gamitaeeumjowee-tang resulted in significant weight loss in elderly female patients with overweight and obesity, without serious adverse effects. Further well-designed studies are needed to validate these findings.
