상담사로서 자기(Self of the Therapist) 구성에 관한 질적 연구: 내러티브상담사를 중심으로

A Qualitative Study on the Composition of the Self of the Therapist: Focusing on narrative therapist

본 연구는 상담사가 치료관계에서 의식적 목적적으로 사용하는 ‘상담사로서 자기’의 구성과 본질적 의미를 파악하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 이러한 연구목적을 달성하기 위해 전문 내러티브상담사 8인의 연구 참여자를 심층 인터뷰한 자료를 Giorgi 현상학적 연구방법을 적용하여 상담사의 자기 구성을 체계적으로 분석하고자 하였다. 분석결과 내러티브상담사의 ‘상담사로서 자기(Self-of-The-Therapist: SOT)’는 35개의 의미 단위와 5개의 하위구성요소, 1개의 구성요소로 도출되었다. 내러티브상담사의 ‘상담사로서 자기’는 전문적 역량, 상담사와 치료모델의 기반 철학에 따른 태도, 상담사 특성, 상담사 삶의 경험으로 구성되어 있고, 이를 자기성찰을 통하여 점검하고 치료 상황에 따라 상담사가 의식적으로 사용하는 ‘치료적 도구로서 나’를 의미하였다. 본 연구결과는 치료적 도구로 ‘상담사로서 자기’ 구성을 밝힘으로써 핵심적으로 다루어야 할 부부‧가족상담사 요인을 확인하고 상담사교육의 방향성을 제시하였다는 데 의의가 있다.

Purpose: This study aimed to identify the composition and essential meaning of the ‘self of the therapist,’ which therapists consciously and purposefully utilize within therapeutic relationships. Methods: To achieve this objective, data from in-depth interviews with eight professional narrative therapists were analyzed using Giorgi’s phenomenological research method to systematically explore the composition of the therapist’s self. Results: The analysis revealed that the “Self-of-the-Therapist (SOT)” in narrative therapy consists of 35 meaning units, five sub-components, and one primary component. For narrative therapists, the “Self-of-the-Therapist” is comprised of professional competence, attitudes aligned with the fundamental philosophy of the therapist and the therapeutic model, therapist characteristics, and the therapist’s life experiences. Therapists employ this self as a therapeutic tool by consciously reflecting on it according to the therapeutic context. Conclusions: The findings of this study have significance in that they reveal the core factors of the therapist’s self as a therapeutic tool, providing insights into key elements for marital and family therapists and suggesting directions for therapist education.
