The Effects of Clinical Practice Stress, Interpersonal Competence and Nursing Professionalism on Job Preparation Behavior of Nursing students

This descriptive study was conducted to identify factors that effects of the clinical practice stress, interpersonal competence and nursing professionalism on job preparation behavior of nursing students. Subjects were 170 students in the department of in Jinju, city, Gyeongsangnam-do, from May 2th to June 31th, 2024 and were surveyed by a self-report questionnaire. Data analysis was performed by t-test, Scheffe’s test, ANOVA, Pearson’s correlation and hierarchical multiple regression using the SPSS WIN 23.0 program. Result revealed a clinical practice stress score of 3.12 (range 1-5), a interpersonal competence score of 3.64 (range 1-5), a nursing professionalism 3.77 (range 1-5) and a job preparation behavior 3.23 (range 1-5). A significant correlation indicated that job preparation behavior of nursing students positively correlated with interpersonal competence (r=0.359 p<0.001) and nursing professionalism (r=0.351, p<0.001). Factors influencing the level of interpersonal competence (β=0.18, p=0.038), nursing professionalism (β =0.17 p=0.047), which together explained 31.5% of the total variance in major commitment. Therefore, in order to improve the job preparation capabilities of nursing students, we propose the establishment of a job preparation support intervention program that considers improvement of interpersonal skills and strengthening nursing professionalism intuition.
